Survivor 48: Episode 5 Recap

Updated: Apr 2

Tonight's episode was must-see TV no doubt about it. What a moment between Joe and Eva, really the biggest talking point of the episode, but with a reward challenge AND immunity challenge, there was a lot that happened.

Starting with the reward challenge, Cedrek might be the worst player of all time in all aspects of the game.

I mean what the heck are you even doing here, buddy?

On the flip side, Mitch might be the greatest athlete of all time. He hit the target immediately from the start to drop the balls, nailed every bounce shot - because Cedrek couldn't do anything - and he also rolled all the balls into the hole at the end. Legend of the game.

Purple and Green win the reward challenge, but of course Sai had to make it about her with the sorest of losers comment after it was over - then going back to camp and acting entitled in her spat with Krissy about game play and eating all the food.

Sai going home might be a unanimous fuck you to her from everyone in the merged tribe and viewers at home. And well deserved, this girl sucks.

With that being said, I feel like Mitch is now the favorite to win it all by a long shot after his performance in both challenges today.

But with the Green and Purple tribes winning sends Purple to the Sanctuary, where good things happen, and so ensues and brings out the meathead in David with his weird milk obsession.

What a weirdo, but plays directly into his character on the show. Just weird stuff going on here. Side note - how in the hell was there not an advantage in the Sanctuary? I feel like that happens all the time and there was nothing there, not even a camera pan to something.

Despite winning in the challenge, Green didn't get to go to the Sanctuary with Purple, but it seems like Green tribe is now locked in for the long haul. And boy did it show in the immunity challenge.

Getting to the immunity challenge, that might have been the single most emotional moment in Survivor history, and yes I will admit it, I did tear up a bit at the end there with Joe and Eva.

Mitch right off the bat talks his shit saying he is getting that immunity idol back at the end of the challenge - spoiler alert, they didn't. But that challenge was awesome.

Diving into water and pulling a boat to shore with a heavy chest on board, pulling the chest to a platform, going underneath a log in the sand, unlocking balls to do a ball maze for the win - now THAT is an old school Survivor challenge.

The Green tribe was locked in from the start, silent assassins from the moment they walked in and it wasn't particularly close at any point. I'm pretty sure every single person got the ball in the hole on their first try, while both the Purple and Orange tribes had to start over time and time again.

Coming down to the wire with Purple and Orange it is Sai vs Eva with one ball left, and perhaps the funniest moment from the challenge when Jeff says something long the lines of "Sai feeling the pressure" and she says "I don't feel no pressure", and Jeff with the clapback of "Well, you should". Chef's kiss Jeff, put her in her place cause this girl STINKS.

Down to the wire, Eva is clearly having a mental episode but she locks in and completes the challenge, sending Orange to tribal - but this win for Eva gave us, perhaps the most emotional moment in Survivor history (this is a long video but it is awesome).

Jeff getting choked up, never before seen in Survivor - just an all-time moment for what could play out to be the best season of all time - certainly the new era.

Tribes go back to camp, following mostly purple and Star finally reveals her beware advantage, and what do ya know? Eva cracks the code and Star gives her the idol. I get it, great moment for Eva, great thing to do for Star, but you don't give up an idol like that. Crazy move.

Skipping ahead to tribal, considering nothing else happened at camp other than Bianca giving the kiss of death and telling Cedrek that she doesn't have a vote.

This may have been the most bring tribal this season. Nothing crazy happened at all, but of course Bianca goes home. This just proves the theory that you don't tell people anything. All it does is bite you in the ass. Especially in Bianca's situation where she was just safe and more than likely Sai was going home. Wild move all around.

Next week seems to be merge, and that is where the game could turn upside down.
