Coach Day's College Football Top Players: Linebackers

Our last Saturday without college football is upon us as we count down the days till kickoff in Dublin! My series on the top players in college football continues on the defensive side of the ball, focusing now on who many call the QB of the defense: linebackers.

One of the first things you notice right away is that Texas Tech and Notre Dame each have two LBs on this list, including the top spot going to Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa. He and Drayk Bowen are also top NFL prospects, as both can do it all from rushing the passer to dropping into coverage. Bowen in 2025 had 3.5 sacks and 3 pass deflections, while Kyngstonn added 3 sacks and an interception.

As for Tech, we see Ben Roberts and K-State transfer Austin Romaine. These two are continuing the recent pipeline of outstanding backers after Jacob Rodriguez made a run at the Heisman last year. Roberts is a menace to QBs, coming off a 4-interception season for the playoff-bound Red Raiders, and he looks ready to repeat his outstanding performance.

As for the rest of the list, there are some very big names around college football, from Clemson’s Sammy Brown to Group of 6 stud Jaxton Eck out of New Mexico. This was a list that was very tough to keep to only 10, as the LB position has some real dudes this year.

The series continues later this week, so make sure to keep a close eye out for what’s next: the Top 10 cornerbacks in college football. Remember, defense wins championships, and these LBs will be at the center of attention all season long.
