This past week of Dozen matches was far from mundane, as we had a couple of teams make their season or Dozen debuts and finished with a heavyweight matchup Sunday night. But let’s bury the lead here...two major moments captivated Barstool fans this week. First, Barstool Breakdown’s Reed Jones nailed a "call a friend" heard around the Stoolie world. Then, Sunday night, we all got the news we were hoping for with the Booze Ponies will hold onto their captain, Will Compton, with Portnoy allowing him to continue competing in the Dozen. Let’s dive into the week of matches.
The first match of the week put Fore Play against Minihane; a matchup that could have get Kirk & Co. back on track for the season. Things went off the rails quickly for Fore Play, as they switched their final answer person from Riggs to Trent mid-match. I will say, though, it was a great performance by Trent in the loss, putting up 8 points. Still Minihane was just too much, as they had a very balanced attack in this landslide win. This team, when locked in, is dangerous with their range of knowledge. The problem, though, is Klemmer’s mental toughness with Kirk. If he can stay focused, he brings enough to make this team a real contender!

The second match of the week was the big debut of Gruden’s Grinders. They came out hot against the defending champs, Ziti, with Jake Malasek on fire. His decision-making, particularly trusting Barstool Breakdown’s very own Reed Jones, was masterful. Reed coming through on the NBA phone-a-friend could open up a whole new portal for Stoolies having a shot to contribute to The Dozen!
I don’t know if Jeff D. Lowe is reading, but Team Barstool Breakdown vs. Dozen All-Stars this year? Let’s make it happen! I think we could hang with them!
Unfortunately for the Grinders, the hot start cooled off as the Snack Boys turned the big MO with fast food restaurants, and Ziti never looked back, proving once again that they are still the team to beat. Meanwhile, the Grinders showed they will be no easy out this year. We know they have a coach who knows how to win, so he’s going to have them ready for every match. I also expect more out of Blutman as we move forward into the season.
The last match of the week started with the good news of Will Compton staying on for the whole season with the Booze Ponies. Uptown Balls, though, did not care...they started fast and jumped out to an early lead. Dana Beers seemed a little off his game tonight, but he still managed to put it together, helping his squad mount a comeback and hold onto the No. 1 spot for now. The scariest part? The Ponies took down a top-5 team even with their MVP having an off night. As for Balls, this loss shouldn’t hurt them too much, and they still will be seen as a title contender moving forward.

The other big news of the week is the change in the music category...they are no longer allowed to play audio. This will be an interesting change as the category now focuses more on lyrics and album covers. How will this affect teams in the future? Something to keep an eye on!
Week 5 schedule:

O/U 27.5

Exciting week ahead, with a big one for a couple of teams looking to add an upset to their tournament resumes, while two new teams face off hoping to show the voters they deserve more love in the rankings. As the season marches on, each week becomes more and more important for the lower seeds to make a big splash.
