Dozen Trivia Tournament: THE Play-ins

The Dozen Trivia League Season 5 has completed its regular season. It ended Sunday night with an Experts victory to secure the regular season championship, their first in franchise history.

To add to the firsts, Brandon Walker was named MVP for the first time...despite not leading the league in scoring by an insane 0.01 mark! A season of newcomers, old faces, and lots of drama will now look to get from 10 to 8 teams this week. Two name-brand teams are fighting to get into the final 8, which then becomes a double-elimination tournament until the Final Four in Boston.

The two play-in matchups are bringing a ton of punch into the inaugural play-in round of The Dozen Tournament, including a former champion looking to return to the big dance.

#7 Uptown Balls vs #8 The Ryders

A premier matchup to kick things off, and also not an elimination for the losing team, as they’ll get a second chance against the 9v10 winner. Whichever team wins here becomes the 7-seed and will face the Booze Ponies in the first round of the tourney live in Chicago.

The Ryders are led by 1st Team All-Dozen selection Kelly Keegs. She’s been their leader all season, but going up against a very under-seeded Uptown Balls, KFC & Rico Bosco will need to step up tonight. As for the Balls, Tommy Smokes is big on college basketball, so if Bosco misses a key one, that could be a major swing in the match.

We know Keegs has pop culture on lock, so missing any of those could be a deciding factor. Glenny, Tommy, and Hannah do have a strong combined knowledge base, but the advantages clearly lean Uptown Balls in this one. Still, the Ryders hope to catch them off guard.

Prediction: Uptown Balls 14, Ryders 10

#9 Mostly Trivia vs #10 Chicago

REMATCH ALERT! Chicago just recently took down Mostly Trivia to force a tie with The Grinders, which they then won by stealing a niche from Rookie of the Year candidate Jake Malasek.

Now, in that previous meeting, you had a desperate Chicago squad against an already-clinched Mostly Trivia. This time, with both teams’ seasons on the line, who shows up? In the 9v10 matchup, it's lose and your season is over, and that brings real pressure.

Mark Titus will look to lead his young squad to the playoffs in the franchise’s first season. That would be a huge accomplishment. Meanwhile, we know Chicago has not fared well in the playoffs historically, even though technically this is a play-in.

Will White Sox Dave crumble? Will Ebo’s analytics be a game-changer? What a scene this will be.

Prediction: Mostly Trivia 13, Chicago 12 (OT)

For those wondering about a bracket preview, that’ll come once the final 8 is set. The play-ins needed a little love first, as it's not easy to get to this point after a grueling season of trivia. Along with the bracket preview, you’ll also get the full list of individual awards and championship odds.

For now...let’s enjoy as four teams trivia it out for the final two spots in The Dozen Trivia League Championship Bracket.
