Dozen Trivia Final Four Delivers(Spoilers)

The Final Four in Boston was everything any Stoolie...but probably not Minifans could ask for. We had comebacks, choke jobs, perfect games, and a newly crowned champion of the Dozen Trivia League. For this one boots were on the ground, Frankie co-host of Barstool Breakdown and I were front and center in the action.

Experts Are Just a Bit More Perfect Than Ziti

To kick off the night, our first Final Four match saw two teams show the world how to trivia. The top-ranked Experts took down the defending champs Ziti, 16–14, with literally not ONE missed question between them. The pivotal bonus round was the only difference.

What a way to go out for Ziti in their title defense, a third straight meeting with the Experts in the Final Four. They now fall to 1-2 in those matchups.

Brandon Walker, through all of his antics (and most likely an unhealthy blood pressure), was sharp as ever, proving his MVP status in these playoffs. With the semifinal win, The Experts were now in familiar territory again, only one match away from the elusive title they so desperately covet.

But who would the adversary be?

Booze Ponies Pull a “Pacers,” Crush Minihane Title Hopes

In what became the match of all matches, the Booze Ponies fulfilled this blogger’s prediction with an incredible, improbable, and gutsy 15–14 OT win.

Things started strong for the Ponies. Despite a large Minifan contingent, the crowd still slightly leaned their way, with constant chants of “Ponies! Ponies! Ponies!” echoing through the House of Blues in Boston.

This may have rattled Chris Klemmer, who to the shock of the crowd bricked MLB. The Ponies stole it and swept MLB 2–0. It looked over after one round.

But not so fast, Stoolies. The rest of the first half was dominated by Minihane, building a 3-point lead heading into the bonus round.

I will say, the questions early did lean heavily into years that favored Kirk & Klemmer, leaving Dana Beers on the outs, when he’s usually pretty sharp. Still, the bonus round closed the gap, and the Ponies found a way.

Minihane kept their distance though into the second half, and going into Beers’ niche, they held a 13–9 lead. It looked bleak... but Dana nailed it, and the room shifted.

Fast forward to the final round: a Ponies sweep was needed to force OT, or their season was over.

In true Ponies fashion...they swept GEOGRAPHY.

Yes, the Booze Ponies swept geography in the Final Four to force OT. For the true OG Booze fans, you never thought you’d read that sentence.

From there, Minihane fought in OT, coming back from down 4–1, but the Ponies finished the job, shocking the Boston crowd. What a crowd pop this moment gave us! Barstool History Books!

Ponies vs. Experts. A new champion to be crowned to close out Season 5.

Experts Need OT to Complete the Quest

Many thought the Ponies, coming off such an emotional win, would have nothing left in the tank.

Well, if you’re in that camp, you gotta read up on these boys ASAP. They came out swinging and were just as hungry as the Experts to finish the job.

A back-and-forth affair wowed the crowd. Yes, Brandon Walker takes his lumps, but this was a battle of two fan favorites, the OG team vs. the Dozen darlings.

In a dramatic finish to cap a perfect night of trivia by Jeff D. Lowe, Brandon Walker nailed a clutch question to give his team momentum into OT.

From there, unfortunately for the Ponies, they had no shot. Walker, Fran, and a very injured PFT weren’t leaving without that trophy.

Five years of close calls and agony...over. They did it!

Brandon Walker, visibly proud and relieved, silenced the doubters for good.

Of course, they still had to twist the knife on him one last time...Fran (well-deserved, mind you) won Tournament MVP.

Quickly, as for the Ponies, they keep getting closer. Many believe they’ll finish the job very soon. They just ran into a buzzsaw in the chip. Will, Beers, and Feits are, and will always be, fan favorites.

This moment was everything the Experts wanted.

B-Walk, Fran, and PFT are finally Dozen Trivia League champions, doing it on a 13-game winning streak and avenging their only Season 5 loss in the championship game.

Of course, in classic Walker fashion, he wins, gets his moment... and next week: no Mostly, no Yak for the 4th of July.

So yes, he’ll still try... but we know the good ole YAK ribbin' will be present.

In the meantime...what a season of trivia. Congrats to Brandon Walker, Fran, and PFT!

The Experts are your season 6 Dozen Trivia League champions!

And now, we all just impatiently await Season 6 of the Dozen Trivia League.
