2026-27 Gonzaga Player Profiles: Chauncey Wiggins?
We have our first major question mark in the Gonzaga player season preview series: Chauncey Wiggins. Currently not eligible, this makes things a little messy as the season is now less than a week away! Still, according to Gonzaga's official roster, Wiggins is a rostered player as of today, so let's get to know Chauncey Wiggins.
As I said, we truly don't know if Wiggins will ever don a Zags uniform with his eligibility still in limbo. Which, not to go on a tangent here, is absolutely bananas! How in the world can some guys get the 5th year while others cannot? The NCAA just needs to drop all of this and let the guys play ball! Anyway, let's meet Chauncey. He is a sharp-shooting stretch-4-to-wing type of player. Obviously, after seeing our scrimmage on Saturday, his shooting could be a major difference in the ceiling for this team. Last year, on nearly 6 attempts a game, he shot 39%, and for his career, he sits at just under 38% with over a make a game. Though, as I said, he is considered more of a perimeter guy, his rebounding numbers have improved yearly, finishing with 3.9 rpg last season. So how does he fit in with this team?
Well, Wiggins can help give even more size on the defensive end for one; while we still have a lot of length, you can never have too much. On offense, he could be a game-changer, what we were hoping for out of Steele Venters last year: a guy off the bench who can hit 2–3 quick threes and change the landscape of the game. Not to mention, he has Power 4 pedigree and won't need an adjustment period to the size & speed of the teams the Zags will play in non-conference play. We already saw Isiah Harwell on Saturday showing no need for time either, as he was used to big-time basketball. What can we truly expect, then, out of Wiggins?

Well, this is the toughest case so far in the player previews, with the most obvious issue being we truly don't know his status, and frankly, it is looking grim as of now. Still, I am going best-case scenario for Chauncey. If he can get cleared and onto the court, I see him being an important piece off the bench for our Zags, some games lighting it up even. His presence will keep defenses on their toes and open up lanes for the Davis Fogles & Isiah Harwells while giving more room in the post for Braden Huff. All in all, here's to hoping we get to see Wiggins in the Zags uni this year!
