2026-27 Gonzaga Player Profiles: Nathan De Sousa

A new day, a new Gonzaga player profile is dropping, as I continue my series to preview the 2026-27 season that is less than two weeks away now. Yesterday we tipped off with Isiah Harwell, and if you missed that, I have attached the link to his profile or preview below. For our 2nd edition of the series, we are going overseas with Nathan De Sousa, the French PG, who is fully eligible! Thank God! So let's meet De Sousa.

Nathan was a late add after we lost our returning PG Mario Saint-Supery to the Euros and 2026 prize commit Jack Kayil to the draft (which yikes, I do wonder how much he is regretting things about now). But look, no worries, I am not going to bash Mario one bit; I understand the choices he made & will root for him like any other former Zag! Anyways, sometimes there is addition by subtraction, and with De Sousa I believe fully in this statement. The 23-year-old PG is a proven player in the top-tier French league. During his last year he averaged 10.9 ppg, 4.9 apg, and great shooting splits. Now for those not dialed into the Euros, they do play more of a team-oriented game there, so yes, just under 11 a game may not seem eye-popping to us Americans, but trust me, we have a dude here.

Already in multiple rankings he has gotten top 10, even top 5, as a European player coming to the NCAA this season. The talent and hard-nosed play style he brings will make him a fan favorite. In the Kraziness in the Kennel he showcased his ability to get downhill and find the open guy or be a threat to finish at the rim; he looks to have a nice bag, as the kids say, around the rim. His numbers in France also tell us he can be a shooting threat as well. This is starting to become a common theme after 3pt shooting over the past two years has clearly been the Zags' crutch.

For Nathan's stats, on my projections nothing is eye-popping, but this does not mean he won't be a major contributor this season. I do think Xaivian Lee will be the starter, but De Sousa will be the first PG off the bench, manning the second unit and giving the Zags little to no drop-off from the first unit. The dude is getting high praise already from coaches, and his former teammates are in the ear of our coaches saying this guy is gonna be a difference-maker.

Like I said at the beginning, sometimes addition by subtraction is a thing, and with Nathan De Sousa it looks to be very true. Tomorrow in Arkansas we will get to see how he handles his first major college experience. I am excited to see how he plays and what he will be bringing to our team in 2026-27. Also, I wish it wasn't just for one year... but let's just enjoy his play while we can!
