Would You Rather: Flights or Sports

So as a Barstool Yak–obsessed fan...or at least how my wife would probably title my fandom. Lets just say I see a lot of episodes. In each episode, we usually get a “Cheah” question, and these seem as innocent as ever until the group really dives into them. Well, I feel like Cheah and the Yak may have influenced my random thoughts this weekend. Or maybe they discussed this in a Yak way back and I just re-found my memory of it. Either way, I came up with a HUGE would-you-rather.

So here we go: Would you rather have full and free access to any non-private flights for the rest of your life, or free and full access to any sporting events for the rest of your life?

Before we go any further, you get just a plus-one with each choice, and none of that selling-the-passes crap, lameos. Let’s dissect this before we jump to any decisions.

So as sports fans, of course we jump to the sporting events. But let’s examine the flights situation here. Under this scenario, we’re talking unlimited travel, at any time, in any class as well. See, that’s the part that gets me thinking a bit...first class travel to Europe, Asia, Africa—the possibilities are endless.

Then add in the comfort factor of being in the all-inclusive first class that the best airlines have to offer. Also, no more trying to get to the airport at 4 AM because the cheapest flight left at sunrise. Who out here has said, "I'll do the red-eye ‘cause it saves time," but then you can't sleep? Maybe you could in a spacious, reclining first-class seat! I haven’t even mentioned the cost of extra bags, no more you and your significant other trying to consolidate or playing suitcase Jenga for an hour before leaving. Say goodbye to that. ALL included.

So at this point, what’s the downside, right? Well, the rest of the cost of a vacation. Are you going to be able to use this enough for it to be worth it? You still have to pay for hotels, food, excursions, and that can really add up. Plus, timing with work, kids, pets, and other responsibilities makes this maybe a little tougher to take full advantage of. We have to think big but also realistically, too. So if we choose this?

But let take a look at my what if top 5 trips? Now I have already been to most of the U.K., Ireland, Switzerland, Mexico, and most states...probably around 30-35 off the top of my head including Hawaii.

  • Norway - This place looks amazing, I would have this on a for sure short list of places to go, only heard good things and with the ability to bring anything, I'm bringing my golf clubs just in case!

  • Egypt - So much cool history there, such a unique place when you include food, culture, and geography

  • Italy - I mean gotta be on there right? Again with the history, sights, and the FOOD!

  • New Zealand - Whew what a flight this one will be, but man from what I've heard this place looks so legit to see in person

  • Scotland - Only place in the U.K. I haven't been, definitely bringing the golf clubs, and always taking the scenic routes around there.

So what about the sporting events, though?

Now, for this section boys, this is going to take some convincing of the wives or girlfriends, yes. But it is possible. Of course, the details: to have full access to any sporting event is the dream. Yes, travel will be required for some, but imagine going to your local team’s games any night you want. Get there early or late, be in the thick of it. Down on the field or court for pregame warmups, maybe even interact with players (as long as you’re not in their way, we can’t be going and getting this thing revoked).

Also, part of “full access” means the golden ticket of free everything at the event...food, drinks, merch. I think that right there is a huge bargaining chip with the wives. A drink and some good eats? This just became a full-blown experience. A date, even!

Of course, this option also includes the need to travel to big events, so timing, money, and life stuff still factors in, just like with the flight option. But to me, a huge plus here is the ability to use it almost year-round locally, with pro and college sports teams in your area. That makes it a way better bang-for-your-buck situation. So if I choose this what are the Top 5 events I would look to use this one first.

  • The Open Championship - Man I have tried to get in the ticket lottery for this thing for the past 5 years with no luck, it is the one golf tournament I would choose over any other by far!

  • Final Four - To get full access to the Final Four is an insane dream scenario, to talk to coaches, players and see the process it takes to prepare for such a big game. Then to choose where to watch it from live, woof.

  • Notre Dame Football Game - I would maybe cry to be able to be on the field and see all the behind the scenes of the Fightin' Irish. It's what dreams are made of.

  • Super Bowl - This has to be on the list right? I mean its the Super Bowl, one of if not America's biggest event of the year.

  • Local Teams Season Games - I would be all over this, it's not only free season tickets, but all access to your favorite teams nightly. Damn what a life.

These are always oh-so-tough to decide. I mean, if it were easy, anyone would do it. To be able to travel anytime, anywhere, for free...that’s some hell of a dream scenario. You’re suddenly open to see so much of what the world has to offer.

On the other hand, for sports fans? To be able to freely immerse yourself completely into the sports world, potentially meet athletes, and see so much more of the other side, go to major events like the Super Bowl, the Masters, or the Final Four? Woah.

As a lifelong sports fanatic, I think I just have to go with my gut on this one...and I would choose the sporting events. To me, it’s a gimme just based on being able to go to your local teams any night you want. Magical scenario. Then you mix in a couple of big-time events here and there? That’s the dream. Sports consume so much of my hobbies, and to be able to have such access to any event, how do you live with yourself as a sports fan if you turn this down? Could you ever fully watch your local teams anymore knowing you could have been there...FOR FREE! Nah, nah, nah this is an easy choice, and I think your significant other would want this for you as well. Also maybe there secretly want it too, as like I said kind of unlimited fun dates for free now! For now it's just a dream, but boy what a dream it is.

agree to disagree…the amount of money you save on flights alone means you can splurge on getting whatever seats at a sports game you want LOL
