TOMMY TROY TIME!

The wave of young Dbacks continues to be a fun ride for fans, as after the unfortunate injury to Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Reno Aces INF/OF Tommy Troy is headed up to the big leagues! The former 1st-round pick out of Stanford in 2023 has arrived just weeks after Ryan Waldschmidt got to the show as well. The Dbacks are going all-in on their prospects & it is a great time to be a fan!

Who is Tommy Troy?

For those who aren't as dialed into the minor leagues, Troy has been a top-10 prospect within the system since he was chosen in 2023 & currently holds the 5th spot. Though drafted as a 2B, with that spot under the control of Ketel Marte, & previously Jordan Lawlar as well, they began to work with him around the diamond & eventually even the outfield. This season he has made countless highlight plays for the Reno Aces on defense. His athleticism allows for him to be a plug-&–play guy, something that is a unique asset any MLB roster would love.

Tommy Bats?

Defense though is still considered to be his 2nd best trait; in the batter's box he is a pure hitter. Though his power is limited, he has still hit 27 HRs in the minors, including a career-high 15 last year. A career .276 hitter, he has been an on-base machine in AAA this season, hitting .307 with a .397 OBP. Oh & also, he has 55 SBs since being drafted. So yes, the guy may not pop as "elite" in one category, but he fills most boxes across the board.

As Waldschmidt has already gotten comfortable in the big leagues, if Troy can follow suit over the next couple of weeks, the Dbacks will soon have some problems... very good problems, but still choices to be made. With Jordan Lawlar, Pavin Smith, & Carlos Santana all on the IL now, once they are back in action and the youngsters are ballin', will the Dbacks ride with them or not? For now, let's enjoy the show as Tommy Troy joins the big league team.
