The REAL Heisman Contenders

So all over the internet we can see "Heisman Contenders" lists. Sure, they are all nice and perfect with the big names plastered all over them to make you click it and oooo & awe over them. But whatever happened to finding the BEST players in the nation, the ones who are truly balling out, not whether their last name is the same as someone else's or they have an SEC patch on their collar? Look, some big names deserve the recognition, BUT let's not forget this trophy is for college football's most deserving players!

I think no matter your allegiance or location in these great 50 states, all ball knowers have to be in full agreeance (is this a word? fuck it, we need some new ones anyways) that Jeremiah Smith is lapping the field right now. Barring miracles from someone beneath him or him just getting 11 v 1 the rest of the season, this award should start engraving the letters in. That is all that needs to be said on this.

I wanna talk about some dudes that people for some reason like to leave out. First up, a little 5'10 freshman in the PNW named Jesse LeGree. Oh, you haven't heard of him? Oh, the PAC-12 doesn't play anyone so the numbers are bloated? Tsk, tsk, tsk. Let me hit you with some factoids. 13 catches for 376 yards and 3 TDs, that would be in the two games combined against top-25 opponents Houston & Texas Tech. LeGree is legit, let's give the kid some love! In total, he has 740 receiving yards and 9 TDs, and has yet to have a game with less than 100 receiving yards. I don't care who you play, that's freakin' good!

Next up, I wanna highlight the kid in Missouri. While we expected a running back to be the dude for the Tigers this season, it has been the lefty Austin Simmons who has been electric. Still yet to throw a pick, he has been great even in his team's one loss. This past Saturday against the top-10 Florida Gators (though maybe they should have just been top 20), he could do no wrong, slicing up their defense every way he could.

Now again, this is pretty much wrapped up if Smith can manage to just get himself a few more touchdowns and yards to keep it rolling. But the debate for who else gets invited should be very fun the rest of the way. If LeGree continues to have video game numbers, we gotta find a way to get him to New York, this cannot go unnoticed!
