Syracuse Basketball has Become an Embarrassment

March Madness is a few weeks away. Many people are hopeful their favorite team will make a run in the tournament. When I watch my favorite team I’m hopeful I won’t  put my head directly through the tv and yell every expletive in the english language. Syracuse was once one of the better programs in the country. the Orange have turned into an afterthought in the national media and they are quite simply a joke. The years of Jim Boeheim making deep tournament runs and turning the Carrier Dome into one of the toughest places to play in the nation are long gone. They are gone because Adrian Autry is the wrong guy in charge. He isn't the sole reason. Very few times when things get this bad can you blame it on one guy but it starts with the man in charge. This is a team that CONSISTENTLY struggles with the fundamentals of basketball. They can’t shoot (11th out of 18 ACC teams in FG %). They turn the ball over (16th of 18 in TOs). They play no defense (17th of 18 in points allowed). Their half court offense is nonexistent. They are good at nothing and suck at everything. One of the better players on team last year Chris Bell has regressed drastically (he has essentially gotten worse at every metric).

There’s no excuse whatsoever for Red Autry to be the head coach of Syracuse Basketball next season. I don’t care about star Freshman Donnie Freeman missing time due to injury. We sucked before and after he went out. I don’t care that Kiyan Anthony and Sadiq White are coming in. We can’t waste another year in this cycle. The talent was good enough to play well in a historically bad ACC conference this year. Don't let anyone tell you this is an NIL issue or a transfer issue. If making a change at coach jeopardizes your incoming recruiting class, it is what it is. Two 18 year old kids don’t fix the problem that Syracuse has had for a long time now. There needs to be an overhaul top to bottom of this program before it’s too late. Until we want to be a serious program again, all I can do is look back at clips of the past and reminisce.
