OFFSEASON VIBE CHECK: BROOKLYN NETS

ree

Ladies and gentlemen, we have officially found our first "what the fuck is this slop" team of the offseason vibe checks. I sincerely mean this when I say I have no clue what the Brooklyn Nets are building. They traded Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, James Harden, Mikal Bridges, and Cameron Johnson within the last 3 years and have almost nothing to show for it in terms of meaning. Get a shit ton of draft picks? Ok, watch me go possibly 0-for-5 in the FIRST ROUND of the draft by drafting basically all the same positions/playstyle. Have a ton of future cap space? Ok cool, I'm sure the top free agents will be lining up to play with "Michael Porter Jr." and "Terance Mann". Have a generational (statistically that is) young scorer? Watch me low ball him with offers that makes him want to leave where I'll get probably 25 cents on the dollar in a return. Let's just get into the analysis already.

ROSTER CHANGES:

Yeah I'm not even going to bullshit you here. This is the worst fucking roster in the league. I do really like a lot of these players as individuals. But as a team where MPJ is your best player? I have almost no words. Nic Claxton is a very solid big man who is a very good rim protector but now that Cam Johnson and probably Cam Thomas are gone, will more than likely be the Nets biggest trade asset. Michael Porter Jr. now is the best player on a team and will have the greenlight he has always wanted in his career, so if you're a betting man: take the under on his assists almost every game. Terance Mann is a respectable player (remember when he dropped 39 on Gobert?) But the biggest thing the Nets have going for them (positivity about the Nets!?!?!?) is they have a LOT of young players who could pop or breakout. Day'Ron Sharpe is legit an insane rebounder (22% TRB for his career including a 19% ORB rate). Ziaire Williams, Jalen Wilson, & Keon Johnson all have the makings to turn into prototypical 3&D wings. Noah Clowney has shown flashes of turning into a stretch four as well. And Drew Timme is as old-school as they come with his low-post scoring moves. But that's a lot of "if's". Not enough of "wow's".

DRAFT PICKS:

ree

The Nets had FIVE first round draft picks and it seemed like their strategy was "if we draft all of the same position, ONE of them has to hit." Egor Demin was definitely a lottery pick in my big board. But at the 8th pick might have been a stretch for someone I compared to Josh Giddey and Kyle Anderson. Traore is a legit blur on the court but struggled offensively scoring wise this past year, Powell is a high-level athlete who shot the ball well from three in college, and Ben Saraf had a draft comparison to "Israeli D'Angelo Russell". I will say I do like the Powell and Wolf (a great low post passer) the most.

VIBE CHECK: TIER RANKING

ree

Ok to reiterate, as we go through and do an offseason vibe check for each NBA team, I will personally be putting them into tiers. S being the best of the best and F being absolute dogshit. Just to clarify there is no ranking within the tiers so if two teams are in the same tier it's interchangeable. The Nets are one of only 2-4 teams that will get an F from me this offseason. Again their biggest move this offseason was trading for Michael Porter Jr. after we just watched his shoulder turn into Arby's roast beef in the playoffs and taking project draft picks when their were (obviously in my opinion) better players available. But don't worry! They have a ton of cap space the next two offseasons, so all will be fine.
