MICAH PARSONS IS A GREEN BAY PACKER

ree

Jerry Jones really did it. He traded away the Cowboys' franchise player, who, at only 26 years old, is still in his prime and arguably might not have even reached the pinnacle of his career yet. To put in perspective just how damn good Parsons is, look at his first four seasons:

  • Rookie Year: 13 sacks, Pro Bowl, All-Pro 1st team, DROY, DPOY runner-up

  • Second Year: 13.5 sacks, Pro Bowl, All-Pro 1st team, DPOY runner-up, 8th place in MVP

  • Third Year: 14 sacks, Pro Bowl, All-Pro 2nd team, 3rd place in DPOY

  • Fourth Year (last season): 12 sacks, Pro Bowl (missed 4 games)

Do you realize how insane that is to walk into the league and instantly be one of not just the best defensive players, but best players in general. Think of two of the best pass rushers we've seen this century. JJ Watt and Von Miller. Let's look how those 3 players stack up against each other in their first 4 seasons.

Absolutely absurd start to his career. But it doesn't just stop there. Parsons is considered one of the 3 best pass rushers currently playing, along with T.J. Watt and Myles Garrett.

We really are witnessing the start of a legendary career. But how does this impact the two teams involved?

THE PACKERS:

Well, for starters, the Packers already had a pretty stout defense. Their top two leaders in sacks, Kenny Clark and Devonte Wyatt, combined for 12.5 sacks last season...half a sack less than Parsons got while missing 4 games. Xavier McKinney was an All-Pro safety last year with EIGHT interceptions. Edgerrin Cooper, a rookie, finished 6th in DROY voting and looked to be a key building block for the future. McKinney, Parsons, and Cooper are 27, 26, and 23, respectively. So that defense is already great and young, too. This is a team that went 11-6 last year, got a top 3-5 defensive player in football, and also added what seems to be a great WR in the draft. But what did they lose? Kenny Clark, a 3x Pro Bowler, who had the lowest amount of sacks, QB hits, and tackles since his rookie year, and two 1st-round picks. Yeah. They'll be fine.

THE COWBOYS:

Jerry Jones, as a non-Cowboys fan, I love you. The contract that Parsons got from the Packers versus what was apparently offered by the Cowboys is only $900k more after taxes by the way. I'm looking in my crystal ball right now and seeing the Cowboys embracing the tank, trying to get Arch Manning, getting rid of Dak, and still not making the NFC Championship. 4-13 season on the way with a few George Pickens crashouts and CeeDee Lamb cryptic tweets. I'll let my good friend, Joe Sauce, explain his pain as a Cowboys fan.
