From podcasts to wheels, 40-plus-hour video game streams to company basketball games, ice cream machines to first-class flights, Barstool Sports has been a viral craze yet again in 2025. Not to mention signing a historic deal with Fox as their former ownership took yet another big L with Penn dropping from the sportsbook game.
Somehow though, this doesn’t even touch the two revolutionary ideas from Dave Portnoy this year. The success of the Barstool Beach House & The Internet Invitational not only exceeded their expectations, but has stoolies on the edge of their seats for more.
In a social media world that feels dominated by reality-TV drama and, well, basically YouTube golf, many casual bystanders may question how the Beach House & the Invitational are so earth-shattering. You see though, yet again Portnoy shows he is a world-class chef, he took a simple recipe like chocolate chip cookies, which done over and over again is still a solid seller, and added his own personal-touch ingredient. Sendin' it to the MOON!
It started with taking reality TV and going as uncut as he could to strip it down for the fans in real time. Portnoy, knowing that we live in a binge society with attention spans shorter than newborns, “clip-farmed” instead. The opening weekend shattered social media so much they basically got locked out from posting on certain platforms. A done-and-done-again process of reality TV being filmed, cut, interviewed, and then shown once a week... or all released months later, was now turned on its head. Instead we got live reactions in the moment, got to see their impacts at & away from the Beach House itself, leaving thousands constantly refreshing their feeds for the next clip.
This show gave new light to the reality-TV world. Will it be duplicated? Maybe... it's not like others haven’t tried the Barstool formula before or anything… cough BUSSIN’ cough. Already it has created real ripples with co-workers finding love(Conrad's Comrades know what's up) and new fame to boost their careers. Portnoy shows he is willing to give you the chance to grow if you want to take it, in any way possible.
You see though, Barstool wasn’t done there. With YouTube golf growing by the day and already having some personalities in the game, Portnoy yet again “cooked,” as the kids would say. This time he worked with Bob Does Sports to bring the internet’s best golfers all together in one tournament with a million bucks on the line.
Again, putting time, resources, and A LOT of money into an idea that could fall on its face. Taking chances is what got Barstool to this point, so why stop now, right? Now yes, golf is riding high with the pros and the amateurs both breaking barriers with the numbers they’ve put up in 2025. But as you know, everyone has their favorites or the ones they maybe dislike... so the fear could be not enough camera time for each person’s fav! WRONG!

From episode one to the finale the numbers are just jaw-dropping, with it all happening within the past two weeks, including not even 24 hours away from the live final, and it already sits at 1.5 million views! The Portnoy haters will be sick yet again, left to only ponder: how does he keep winning?!?

Already we hear the rumors swirling about a potential next year for the Internet Invitational. I won’t be putting any spoilers in here from episode 1 to the finale and instead implore you to see it for yourself. Whether you are a golf fan or just a stoolie, it is all worth it. Also, the class shown by everyone involved, with or without Stool affiliation, considering the heartbreaking news about Beef just before release, needs to be commended. Hopefully the rumors are true moving forward about future Invitationals with the winning trophy named in his honor.
We as stoolies are told each year by so many other outlets: “Enjoy it while it lasts,” “Barstool isn’t it anymore,” “The fall is coming", yada yada yada. Yet here we are with only a couple of months left in 2025, and instead we’re seeing another banner year around Barstool Sports with new innovation, from joining Fox Sports to live reality TV to taking the lead in YouTube golf. As the viewers evolve, so does the Stool. You can’t help but be excited in anticipation for what Dave Portnoy, Dan Katz, & all of the Barstool team have in store for us in 2026.
