(Arch) Manning Name Goes Both Ways

We are only about 5 hours into the college football season and we already have our first social media mutiny. Ohio State(who looks primed for a repeat!) took down Arch Manning and his #1 ranked Texas in dominating fashion to kick off the season. But quickly the story became all about Arch Manning, the proclaimed-by-media Heisman winner & future number one pick. Proving that just as the Manning name can vault you into accolades, it can also be your fall.

Arch, outside of a couple of runs & late-game darts (one really nice one for their only score) there’s no denying it, he stunk! Including with the game on the line: just 3 complete stinkers of throws. The internet, myself as well, are ready with lots of ammunition to say...WTF man.

Over not just the summer but the past two seasons, all we have heard is how he is the second coming. Now with the chance to fully show the world he is worthy, he barely musters 7 points of offense, and until a couple of late-game drives barely found 100 yards passing. (Ended with 170, 1 TD, 1 INT). Could Arch still have a crazy good year ahead of him? Yes, of course. But maybe let’s chill on all of this Manning talk before he actually makes it happen. I mean, poor Quinn Ewers last year had to hear after every non-scoring drive “it’s Arch time”...well maybe some apologies need to be extended out to Mr. Ewers now.

Right now though, social media deserves to give it to him. When the media uses the Manning name to hold you high, if you don’t deliver expect the masses to come out. It’s these moments where you can’t help but laugh at the craziness that is Twitter, the consensus is through one game...Arch is not him.

Also lost in all of this...yikes Ohio State looks good.
