Was North Wilkesboro A Good Race?

Before I share my opinion, you have to know that I only got into racing last year. I am no expert and my opinion on this really means nothing.

Things I liked about North Wilkesboro:

• Timing. From green flag to checkered flag the race was 2 hours, 50 minutes, and 54 seconds. As someone who bartends at a small Wisconsin Dive bar on Sunday nights, I loved the start time of this race and how long the race was. There wasn’t much on for sports last night and being able to have this on compared to the classic Game Show Network was an A+ in my book. I get Denny Hamlin said on the radio that “this race is too fucking long”, but he’s old and wrong.

• History. I enjoyed learning the history of this short track during the pre-race show. Even though the last time NASCAR had a Cup Series points race here I wasn’t alive, as a view you could feel the history from the fans at the race and from the broadcast.

• Racing. Even though Joey Logano did lead a career high 323 laps of this 450 lap race, there was a lot of movement. Joey started P11, finished 1st. Chase Briscoe started P30, finished 3rd. Bubba Wallace started P26, finished 6th. Brad Keselowski started P23, finished 7th. Not to mention the King of the road courses, SVG (Shane Van Gisbergen) led 49 laps. Ty Gibbs also led 47 laps. If you haven’t heard SVG’s radio when he took the lead, it’s a must listen.

Things I didn't like:

• TV Product. I have loved the TNT broadcasts, don’t get me wrong. I just think some of the cameras haven’t been updated in over 10 years and it showed. Not to mention the score bug as I would call it for a football or baseball game, is so hard to read. I wish they had larger fonts.

Are there more things that other people didn’t like? Probably, but this is my blog and that's where I’m ending my list.

Before I end the blog, I will be taking credit for Joey winning. In my blog yesterday, I said Joey hasn’t finished higher than 7th place since June 7, and that he hasn’t been good overall. I think he read my blog and gave me the double birds and then went ahead and won it all. He did have a cool victory lap doing a burn out the whole way around the track.
