The Browns Will Be the Browns

To start, I’m not against the value of Shedeur in the fifth round. To be honest, he should have been drafted in the third. The thing that makes this pick bad is that they had already taken Gabriel in the third. For a team with an already bad QB room and a rough history of success at the position, the Browns look poised to suck next year with Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco and have a real chance to draft blue-chip prospect Arch Manning.

They even started the draft with a great trade down, acquiring the best defensive tackle in the draft and an extra first-round pick next year. The Gabriel pick in the third was questionable at the time, but now it’s downright horrible. Sanders is good value for the spot, like I said, but their overall plan makes zero sense.

Shedeur has shown that bad line play really forces him into making bad decisions, and the Browns’ O-line is nothing to write home about. If they knew they would take Sanders on Day Three, why not build the line in the first two days? Even if Sanders got taken before they had the chance, they would still have a solid plan of preparing to suck next year and building a good line for their young stud in 2026.

Now, they have five QBs, all of whom are equally mid, and the 40-year-old Flacco might be the best out of all of them. As a Steelers fan, I love this because maybe Sanders or Gabriel looks good enough that the Browns skip out on one of the elite QBs next year, which would be a huge mistake.

As of right now, the Browns have some trimming to do at that position, with Kenny most likely being the first gone. Keeping Watson on IR for at least half the season leaves the Browns with quite the QB room. Now when Watson comes back, is Flacco the sacrificial lamb, or will one of the rookies be traded? Only time will tell, but man, the Browns love shooting themselves in the foot.
