Portal Bound: Kansas LB Jon Jon Kamara Enters

As December rolls on closer to Christmas, the season of giving gets better & better. Coach Day is here with more transfer portal news! Kansas freshman LB Jon Jon Kamara has entered the transfer portal. Kamara will have 3 years of eligibility left & will surely be a coveted name in the portal.

After redshirting in 2024, the former 3-star recruit found himself a spot in the defensive rotation, the only underclassman to play important snaps in the KU linebacker room. This shows his potential moving forward into the portal.

At 6’4”, 230, his size, skill, & athleticism put him in a rare category at the LB position. This season he appeared in all 12 games on the defensive side & some special teams. His best overall game came against SEC contender Missouri as he logged 2 tackles & a sack.

He wasn’t done there, though, as he finished the season with 4 multi-tackle games & 2 QB hits, including action against playoff-bound Texas Tech in the competitive Big 12. As a freshman, he proved he belonged in the Power 4 week after week in 2025.

Now with entering the portal comes the potential landing spots. Playing his prep ball in Arizona at Desert Edge High School, Arizona State naturally comes to mind as they offered him out of high school. If going back west is in the cards, other West Coast teams who may look to reach out again include San Diego State (who is moving to the Pac-12), Texas, & Washington, all three also extended offers during his prep days.

For updates on Kamara’s portal process, stay close. These things move fairly quick with the spring semester starting right after the new year. Look for updates on Kamara & other players’ new destinations from @TheCoachDay on X(formerly twitter).
