I Hosted Thanksgiving For The First Time. Here's What I Learned

Thanksgiving has been my favorite holiday since I was little. That may be a hot take, but after I found out Santa wasn't real, I just started feeling guilty about Christmas, and I never really gave Halloween the time of day. Thanksgiving has a big meal and football on all day and doesn't require getting everyone a gift. Let's hang out, eat some grub, watch ball, and enjoy each other's company. This year, I moved into a house with an area big enough to host, so I figured I'd give momma a break and take it over for the first time. Here is what I learned:
I'm Too Washed To Go Out The Night Before
I made it home Wednesday night at a decent hour and had planned to build a bathroom space saver around my toilet and rest up for the big day ahead, but then my boss/friend called to let me know the family was at the grill, and having some champagne to bring in the holiday. So my dumbass threw on sweats, grabbed the puppy, and headed out for one. Long story short, my girlfriend had to take the puppy home, I stayed way too late, and had instant regret the next morning which led to the second thing I learned.
Get Up And Get The Turkey In The Oven

I woke up about an hour and a half later than I had planned and noticed I forgot to get oranges for my turkey so I used the peeled apples that were planned for apple pie since we had desserts for days. Honestly, the turkey came out better than I thought, but it was just way behind everything else. I had a plan but I fucked that away with too much whiskey the night before. Next year, I'll redeem myself. Thank god for Mom bringing in a Ham she slow-cooked in the crockpot, which saved us from waiting for the main dish.
Hosting Makes You Feel Accomplished
I'll be turning 30 in February so some could argue I should've felt this before now, but whatever. I found myself on the couch, about 40 minutes after an edible that Mom gave me, and found myself feeling thankful as hell. Thankful for my small friends & family group, for the twitter strangers I've made friends with for this blog, and thankful for the Giants-Cowboys game being the perfect football game to nap on my couch to.
Here's a great picture I'm thankful for.
