Keeping the 2025 movie releases rolling, I present to you my April hype meter!
A MINECRAFT MOVIE
Director: Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre)
Cast: Jack Black (Nacho Libre, Kung Fu Panda), Jason Momoa (Aquaman, Dune)
Release: April 4th
I loved Minecraft growing up and still play it occasionally, but god, this movie should have been animated. Chances are that it will be exactly what it intends to be though: decent enough for parents to sit through, entertaining for kids, and a cash cow when it comes to merchandise.

Cast: Viola Davis (Fences, The Help), Anthony Anderson (Law & Order, Black-ish)
Release: April 10th
Viola Davis plays the president defending her family from terrorists with Homelander himself, Antony Starr, in the movie? Look any Viola Davis movie is automatically probably really good.
HYPE METER: 6.5/10
THE AMATEUR
Director: James Hawes
Cast: Rami Malek (Bohemian Rapsody), Laurence Fishburne (Boyz n the Hood, The Matrix)
Release: April 11th
A SPY GETTING REVENGE IN AN ACTION MYSTERY! ONE OF MY FAVORITE KINDS OF MOVIES!

SINNERS
Director: Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Creed)
Cast: Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther, Creed), Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit, Into the Spider-Verse)
Release: April 18th
Michael B. Jordan is playing double roles in this working yet again with Ryan Coogler (this will be their 6th movie working together) and they haven't made a bad movie together yet. It's rumored this also might be a vampire movie.
HYPE METER: 10/10
UNTIL DAWN
Director: David F. Sandberg (Shazam, Annabelle: Creation)
Cast: Ella Rubin (The Chair, The Girl from Plainville), Michael Cimino (Annabelle Comes Home)
Release: April 25th
Based on the hit horror video game, this movie is being led by mostly unknown actors and actresses who are getting their first big break. Sandberg has done horror before and if they stick true to the games, this could be one of the more surprising movies to release this year.
