It's been awhile, life has been crazy, but it feels good to get back to the blog game.
And what better way to come back into the game then with some Fantasy Football analysis with drafts for most leagues likely coming up as preseason is nearing an end.
I will breakdown a few guys at each of the skill positions of guys who I believe are being overlook and for guys you can ignore on your draft boards.
Let me know who you have for your sleepers and busts this upcoming season!
SLEEPER QUARTERBACKS:
JUSTIN FIELDS, NEW YORK JETS — I'm buying all the Justin Fields stock. Fields has his flaws as a quarterback, but he’s going to run often. The rushing yards give him a high floor. He averages 50.2 rushing yards per game in his career and I believe that this change of scenery with no threat of getting his job stolen will prove to be a confidence booster for Fields. If you are down with waiting on a quarterback in fantasy or need a stash guy who could prove valuable as a trade asset if injuries occur at the quarterback position, this is your guy.
DAK PRESCOTT, DALLAS COWBOYS — Prescott provides a different value in fantasy than Fields does and that's because of his arm strength. The addition of George Pickens will leave defenses in lose-lose situations picking between him or CeeDee Lamb, and with the backfield room in question in Jerry World, I expect the Cowboys to rely on their signal caller to get the job done. Again, if you have a chance to grab one of the elite guys, do it, but if you're in a Superflex league or needing some insurance, you should feel comfortable with Dak.
Other deep sleepers: JJ McCarthy, Drake Maye, Jordan Love.
BUST QUARTERBACKS:
BAKER MAYFIELD, TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS — For the third time in as many seasons in Tampa, there's turnover in Tampa Bay at the offensive coordinator position. I do expect them to still throw at a high volume and think Mayfield has come a long way. You do worry about his targets holding up with Godwin likely to miss time to begin the 2025 season and Mike Evans getting up there in age. I think Emeka Egbuka will be a good fantasy piece in the future, but relying on a rookie to be as consistent as Godwin and Evans have is a tough ask.
SLEEPER RUNNING BACKS:
TREVEYON HENDERSON, NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS — One of the worst kept fantasy secrets over the last few weeks has been the emergence of Henderson. The rookie back out of Ohio State is likely to get quite the workload. With the history of fumbling issues for Stevenson, I expect Henderson to be a lead back for this team after the first few weeks.
JORDAN MASON, MINNESOTA VIKINGS — Jordan Mason is poised to be a significant contributor to the Minnesota Vikings' offensive strategy. Acquired via trade from the San Francisco 49ers, Mason secured a two-year contract with $7 million in guaranteed money. Throughout his career, Mason has averaged an impressive 5.3 yards per carry across 236 attempts. When given starting opportunities last season, Mason excelled, posting an average of 106 rushing yards per game. According to Next Gen Stats, he forced missed tackles at a rate of 37.3%, showcasing his elusiveness and impact on the field.
DJ GIDDENS, INDINAPOLIS COLTS — This is a deep sleeper, but Jonathan Taylor has missed time it seems like for multiple weeks in every year he's played. If you draft Taylor, definitely handcuff him with Giddens just in case. The rookie from Kansas State is poised for a good NFL career in my opinion.
Other deep sleepers: Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Trey Benson, Kaleb Johnson, Isaiah Pacheco.
BUST RUNNING BACKS:
JAMES CONNER, ARIZONA CARDINALS — As James Conner turns 30 this season, I feel a big regression coming. I love Trey Benson, and think it won't be long before he takes over that backfield full time. (I might be salty that Conner was so good last year until the championship week and cost me a title)
JAMES COOK, BUFFALO BILLS — I swear I don't hate the name James, but I think Cook has gotten paid and will take a slight step back. You always worry about Josh Allen's ability to steal touchdowns from him, you also have to think Ray Davis sees some goal line carries entering his second year.
SLEEPER WIDE RECEIVERS:
MATTHEW GOLDEN, GREEN BAY PACKERS — I couldn't write a fantasy blog without mentioning a Packers player. Green Bay finally used a first round pick on a WR and you're going to try and tell me they won't use this dude? I don't buy that for a second. Golden has been a camp clip God. With the Packers WR room dealing with injuries before the season even starts, I think he will have a big role in Matt LaFleur's offense from the beginning.
XAVIER WORTHY, KANSAS CITY CHIEFS — We saw a small glimpse of why the Chiefs used a first round pick on Xavier Worthy in the 2024 draft, and I think he will continue to have a big role especially with other star receiver Rashee Rice set to face a suspension at some point in the 2025 season. He will be a must start every week that Rice is out.
JOSHUA PALMER, BUFFALO BILLS — I went with a deep sleeper here for the 3rd pick. I think Palmer is a slept on acquisition that people aren't talking about enough. Khalil Shakir has secured his spot as Josh Allen's top target, but Palmer will be coming for that No. 2 spot and could be a great value pick late in your draft.
Other deep sleepers: Jauan Jennings, Marvin Mims Jr., Jayden Higgins.
BUST WIDE RECEIVERS:
DJ MOORE, CHICAGO BEARS — I'm tired of trying to buy into the DJ Moore hype. Even with Ben Johnson coming to town, I think it actually gives more value to guys like Rome Odunze and new toy Luther Burden III.
TYREEK HILL, MIAMI DOLPHINS — It feels weird to say to try and avoid a guy like Tyreek Hill, but I am hating the vibes completely in Miami. It feels like this is going to be a situation to monitor in the first few weeks as Hill could be on his way out.
Other busts: Mike Evans, Jerry Jeudy, DK Metcalf.
SLEEPER TIGHT ENDS:
TUCKER KRAFT, GREEN BAY PACKERS — Kraft was among the Packers' most efficient pass-catchers last season. I love his demeanor and the energy he brings to this offense and if you have to wait on drafting a tight end, Kraft can be a good guy to target in the later rounds.
TYLER WARREN, INDIANAPOLIS COLTS — When a quarterback knows they're bad, they're going to force feed their new tight end. I expect Warren to be among the league's best tight ends by the end of the year like Brock Bowers was a year ago. Give me all the Warren stock.
Other deep sleepers: Evan Engram, Hunter Henry, Jake Ferguson.
