Week 12: Dozen Trivia Preview

Apr 28
3 min read

We have a big week ahead in the Dozen Trivia League with a potential elimination game to kick things off. With May beginning, we are only a month away from the playoffs. Jeff D. Lowe hinted last week that teams only have one or two matches left to prove they belong or to solidify their seeds.

Tuesday Night

#13 Ice Dawgs (1-3) vs. #12 Hoagies (1-3)

We have an early elimination match on our hands. With only a few matches left, barring a miracle, the loser of this match will have to wait until 2027 for another chance at postseason play. Both are coming off what might be their best matches in franchise history. The Hoagies, of course, just secured a major upset for their first career win, now, will they continue that momentum? Meanwhile, the Dawgs are grooving and feel they can sneak into the playoff conversation as well.

Keys:

  1. HOT STREAK? Does David Andrews' hot streak continue? He can be a game-changer for the squad.

  2. CULTURE EXPERT: Gia could be the key to a Hoagies win if she can control the pop culture questions.

  3. SPITTIN' CHICLETS??: Can Yandle get a clean sweep in hockey? He hasn't been sharp this year.

Prediction: Ice Dawgs 13, Hoagies 10

Thursday Night

#9 Grinders (2-2) vs. #7 Ryders (2-2)

This is a huge mid-week battle, as seeding is so important going into the tournament. Both teams feel they are dark horses for the Final Four, and this is the perfect match to prove it. Frank the Tank will need to be much better than his last go-around, which is going to be a tough ask with his Mets still reeling. As for the Ryders, you have to wonder if Kelly Keegs' brain will still be in a Vegas fog. The game-changer in this match has to be Jake Malasek; he has the ability to take over matches quickly.

Keys:

  1. BOSCO EFFECT: Who takes college football? This is where Rico will need to step up if they want a big win.

  2. THE MATCHUP: Keegs vs. Malasek: Both are so strong in pop culture, will Jake be able to hang with the All-Star in her best categories?

  3. METS FAILURE: Frank the Tank... that is the key. Which one will show up?

Prediction: Grinders 16 Ryders 11

Sunday Night Showdown

#4 Booze Ponies (3-2) vs. #2 Uptown Balls (4-1)

We know the Experts will be in the regular season championship unless a disaster hits. Now, the Booze Ponies and Uptown Balls will duke it out to see who they’ll be going up against. The Balls have looked the part, holding the only undefeated record in the league. The trio of Tommy Smokes, Glenny Balls, and Rone has been clutch, but will the Ponies finally be their match? Willy C. and his squad are coming off a loss and are hungry to right the ship before the tournament.

Keys:

  1. WHOSE GOT CULTURE?: Can the Booze Ponies hang in pop culture against the big guns, Smokes and Balls?

  2. BEERS BASKETBALL: What do the Ponies double? Dana Beers has seemed a little unconfident in NBA and college basketball lately.

  3. STEALS: That could be the game-changer. Who can come up with a clutch steal?

Prediction: Uptown Balls 15, Booze Ponies 12

The countdown is officially on until the playoffs. With May starting this week, the separation feels large between the contenders and pretenders on the surface, but we just never know when a team will find its groove. Squads like the Ryders, Grinders, and Chicago all feel they are on the cusp of a run. The trivia is only going to get tougher and the stakes are only getting higher, make sure you don't miss out on this week's Dozen Trivia League.
