Truly a Dog Eat Dog World

The job trail ain’t no joke out there, even for the pups. The Tulsa Drillers have announced they will be suspending their bat dog program after the mishap over the weekend that left star prospect Kendall George with a potentially serious knee injury. Folks, it truly is a dog-eat-dog world.

For those very confused at this point, let me fill in some blanks. Many pay little to no attention to the minor league baseball world, only reading articles on their top prospects, which is fair. But it truly is a world that is one of a kind. Mostly found in small towns away from Big 4 sports, it becomes a way of life to some, but not always enough, so teams look to spice it up a bit. The minor leagues are well known for strange nicknames, theme nights, giveaways, and gimmicks...well like hiring bat dogs. Truly anything to get people into the seats on a nightly basis. So yes, it is strangely not uncommon to see a pup take the field after your batter ropes a liner into the outfield.

Unfortunately, though, this doggo ran into some trouble… literally. As Kendall George scored off of a base hit heading into the dugout, he was forced to dodge the determined, hard working, & focused employee the bat dog. who was only trying to do his one job of snagging the unmanned bat, something he has done countless times & is in the dugout with the team, which all of the players know. Which now begs (low-hanging fruit, come on… I had to) the question: who is to blame here? The very good boy rushing onto the field to get the bat in order to keep the game going, or the player clearly not paying attention as he comes into the dugout? Feels clear to me!

WELL, NOT to the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Tulsa Drillers, as the good boy has been suspended indefinitely… heartbreaking stuff, I know. Now he has to go back to his family wearing this shame after only doing the one thing he was supposed to do. This is not a pup who was chewing on the bats or eating all the dugout snacks… no, no, no. Just a hardworking citizen trying to provide for his family the only way he could. We just can't imagine the job market for dogs being strong, now it could be to Alaska & the frozen tundra to deliver medicine along side Balto!(hopefully this reference hit)

Well, I for one cast shame onto the Dodgers organization for making such a rash and unfair decision. I do hope another team soon sees the hard work and dedication he can bring to their squad. We cannot let this stand, but again, would you expect any different from the Dodgers organization? Shame, just shame, and hopefully some bad karma heading their way soon.
