Scottie "Snooze" Scheffler

Alright, I know what you’re going to say—we witnessed greatness this weekend, as the world number one Scottie Scheffler, who easily took down the best field in golf enroute to winning his fourth major. Also, leaving only the U.S. Open to finish up a career grand slam. I get all of that, and how we should be captivated or feel lucky that we not only got to sit back every Sunday and see Tiger in our youth, but now potentially a second coming as well. This is MUST SEE!

Sorry, nope. You’re not going to get all of that here in this blog, instead you might be getting a reality check or an epiphany.

Now, I’m also not going to go off and say this was a perfect once-in-a-lifetime performance or anything to cope with him curb stompin' my favorites of Ludvig Aberg, Rory McIlroy, and Viktor Hovland. No I call them how it is, I'm going to give flowers here, Scottie is the real deal, and could potentially put us to sleep on Sundays for many years to come. Double digit majors is not out of the realm of possible.

The problem is... the dude just has no juice. No sparkle. No jazz hands to speak of!

For instance, people go after Rory for his club chucking, media dodging, and now his newest hidden ball tricks. But the guy is must-see TV. People turn it on to see him make magic...or have a classic meltdown. His game will always bring a twinkle to my eye, so I will never say a bad thing about his antics, we all have rough moments of passionately losing in sports. If anything, lets get honest here, it's a golfer who cares that much. He wants to win at all costs, and when he doesn’t, he wears it on his sleeve. Sorry for caring, people!

Meanwhile, Scottie does show emotion at times, yes...but it feels almost robotic. Puppet-like. Like someone’s wired into his ear saying, “fist pump here,” or “slightly smile and glance at your caddie showing surprise,” or “play with your son.”

Again, NOT a bad guy, we need to make sure that is known here, seems like a good dude, great dad, and all that. I respect the hell out of his game and who he is as a person. But... he’s just so damn boring that I cannot ignore it anymore.

Just for fun how about let’s look at another star of the game. I mentioned Rory. Another golfer with their own style is Bryson DeChambeau. Now, while I’ll defend Rory to the death, I’m probably the only person in the world who cannot stand this man these days(bro thinks we can forget, people don't forget "movie line intended"), his fake, also cringey interactions with the crowd, or his Savannah Banana-like golf YouTube attraction. PUKE.

The rope incident will never get old to me...And now today, his post-round comments on his likeness to Arnold Palmer? Bro. Chill. You have two majors and you chased the money to go LIV and play JUCO golf 95% of the year. But all hatred aside...again, love or hate he gets views. He interacts. He whines on the course. He has a personality. It’s the worst! But still... at least he moves the needle. Scottie just doesn't have that in his bag(no pun intended I SWEAR).

Let’s think about this for a moment: in the past 12–15 months, Scottie Scheffler has won majors, gold medals, broken PGA scoring records, and now is heading into a possible Tour Championship and Ryder Cup. INSANE run. Yet no one seems to be breaking down the doors to cheer for him, or showing the love that Rory, Bryson, and even Xander Schauffele get. You watch golf tournaments and see Max Homa & Jordan Spieth getting bigger crowd pops. WHY?

Again...great guy alert...but snooooze fest.

Even how he wins is just... so damn boring. For those who don’t remember, Tiger Woods would have blowout wins often, but people were still zoned in on how he would do it. We were excited about watching his game. Scheffler just doesn’t seem to have that army, or if he does, they’re just as boring as he is, both on the course and on social media. Also possible I'm just lucky to have not reached that side of social media too.

Of course, we can marvel at the stats, the wins, and the achievements he continues to rack up. But that’s about as excited as you’ll get when discussing Scottie Scheffler.

Congrats, Scottie, but man, come on. Give us a little more… ANYTHING to make it more watchable.
