Season 6 is officially in the books, and not only do we have our first repeat champions, but they did it by going back-to-back as the Experts took down Uptown Balls for the crown. Brandon Walker is the king of trivia until further notice.
If you haven’t gotten the chance to tune in yet, I have to tell ya, you are missing out. The night started with one of the most epic back-and-forth battles, and of course, it came down to a bit. The Markettes and Uptown Balls were playing out of their minds until the last round stumped the Markettes. With a lifeline left on the books, they went for Green Greg himself. Unfortunately, Greg’s playoff cold streak continued, and Uptown Balls jumped on the shortcoming, leading to a last-round victory. Still a great showing by the first year team & Green Greg, they will be back!
In the second semifinal, the Cinderella run struck midnight for the Grinders. After a hot start out of the gates on question one, things unraveled a bit, forcing them to play from behind and rendering them unable to catch up. We know that Jake Malasek will blame himself for the missed mashup and music blunder, but you also have to know that without Malasek, this team wouldn’t have come anywhere near their first Final Four appearance. He is a future MVP in the making for the Dozen League. Brandon, Tommy Smokes, & others who love a scoring title better watch out in season 7.
Side Note: I wish I could throw my name in the free agent pool next season, being in the crowd last night, I was able to continue my perfect Phone-a-Friend record with “Dunkaroos” to help out the Grinders. That puts me at 4-for-4 all-time… clearly in first place for all live shows. ALSO so cool, in the next match, fellow Barstool Breakdown man Reed got his first answer too, as a Brandon Walker-quoted "the good-looking guy in the front row."
Now for the championship match, Tommy Smokes(who was worried I might thrash him in the recap, not to worry though no hit pieces today) and Uptown Balls were buzzing early, even leading into the bonus round, until the Experts woke up to finish off the bonus round and create a little momentum. Still, there was no give-up in Smokes, Glenny, and Rone, who fought until the last round when they just ran out of gas, making the Experts the first-ever Dozen Trivia repeat champs. This was a very balanced attack of Fran & BWalk in the clinching match, then of course with PFT being named Final Four MVP. Moments after the victory, you could already hear the crowd murmuring about a possible three-peat next season for the squad.
It was a crazy season with new teams pushing their way to the top of the league, while others solidified themselves in the rafters above anyone else in the Dozen Trivia League. While the Experts and Uptown Balls showed the league they are the top dogs, the Grinders and Markettes, with their Final Four appearances, will now have a much bigger target on their backs in Season 7. The wait and countdown are already on for all the Dozen fanatics. Jeff D. Lowe does it again with another season of good trivia. A huge thanks is deserved for Lowe, Gooch, and the entire tech and production team who made this great season and event happen!
It was a great night for Barstool and Stoolies, and for me personally, it was great to talk with so many people with awesome stories. Lastly, a huge thanks to Jake Malasek, Dante the Don, Nick Turani, and Gooch for always helping out when I reach out for quotes on the Dozen blogs. For those who love my Dozen blogs as we head into the offseason, be on the lookout for updates, but also please check out my Barstool After Dark previews, Shrinkage updates, and anything else Barstool!
