Ranking the teams in the Barstool Basketball Association

The Barstool Basketball Association, presented by State Farm, will be taking up much of my time during June.

On Monday, BBA Commissioner and soon-to-be father Mark Titus put the 32 players through a combine that you can watch here.

After some surprising times (both good and bad) and a disgusting act of sandbagging from one Nicky Smokes, the top eight times from the combine were named team captains to choose their three other teammates for a chance at $40,000.

Before we break down our team tiers, let's review the top eight times from the combine, which included a dribbling drill, a three-point make, a free throw make, and a made layup.

  1. Hank (13.59 seconds)

  2. Katic (15.79 seconds)

  3. Nicky Smokes (post sandbagging) (17.81 seconds)

  4. T-Bob (20.00 seconds)

  5. Jerry (22.44 seconds)

  6. Big Cat (25.50 seconds)

  7. Tate (26.94 seconds)

  8. Wonton Don (27.34 seconds)

Commissioner Titus then pushed Nicky Smokes to the 8th pick automatically of the draft before drawing the seven captains' names out of a hat. Captains were required to pick one player from each of the tiers.

The draft order was as follows: Wonton Don, Jersey Jerry, Hank, Katic, Big Cat, T-Bob, Titus, and Smokes.

Below are Ryder Stoolie's team tiers for the BBA with the rounds they were selected in.

TEAMS THAT CAN WIN IT ALL

TEAM BIG CAT — Captain Big Cat, Cheah (1st round), PFT (2nd round), Hannah Montoya (3rd round). AWLs will be happy that two PMT guys ended up on the same team with PFT and Big Cat. Obviously, BC wanted Mr. Trust The Data himself with his first-round pick. PFT put up a nice combine with the No. 1 Tier 2 time but slipped down to the 2nd round. Montoya will be able to step in and make some clutch TikToks for the team on their road to greatness. This is a team that has size, smart basketball, and some shooting.

TEAM JERRY — Captain Jersey Jerry, Max (1st round), KB (2nd round), Mackenzie (3rd round). Team Jerry landed the best woman available in the draft in Mackenzie. She can dribble, knock down shots, and give this team good minutes. KB will have lots of energy despite being one of the smaller players who are unlikely to be able to create his own shot. Max was a runner-up in the 1v1 to 1 challenge hosted by Rone earlier in the year in the Chicago office. He has great size and the ability to finish inside and will have high expectations for being the No. 2 overall pick. Jerry will obviously bring the vibes after an outstanding performance at the combine.

TEAM HANK — Captain Hank, Dana Beers (1st round), Danny Conrad (2nd round), Ella Griff (3rd round). After finishing with the best time in the combine, Hank might have ended up with the pick of the first round, landing new Chicago office member Dana Beers. In case you guys forgot, Beers averaged a double-double in high school. Hank has the ability to knock down big shots, and he and Beers might be the top two duos a team features. Danny and Ella Griff, unfortunately, bring about the same value to the court, but the strength of Hank and Beers should be enough to carry this team for a while.

SHIT... MAYBE...

TEAM TATE — Captain Tate, White Sox Dave (1st round), Rico Bosco (2nd round), Mad Dog (3rd round). For whatever reason, Tate went with WSD in the 1st round. However, he quickly made up for it by taking Rico Bosco. #RydersForever Tate and Bosco will need to take this team over with shooting, and if they get hot, you never know what can happen. I'm trusting my guy Rico to carry the team to a couple of wins.

TEAM KATIC — Captain Katic, Chief (1st round), Chef Donny (2nd round), Megan Makin Money (3rd round). This is a slept-on team, for sure. You have a B1G offensive lineman who is still in good enough shape to outmuscle everyone for easy baskets in the paint. Chief looked like a man on a mission in the Barstool After Dark 3-man weave stream last week. Those two alone should be able to run a nice pick and roll. Chef Donny might be able to COOK something up, while MMM will show good effort and do whatever it takes for her team to win.

TEAM WONTON DON — Captain Wonton Don, Big T (1st round), Steph (2nd round), Spider (3rd round). Wonton Don shocked the world when he selected Big T 1.1 overall in the draft on Monday night. However, Big T had a tough combine that knocked him down to the second tier of players and would have still been a priority had he been in the first tier. Truth be told, I expected him to be a top 8 captain, but he couldn't find his 3-point stroke. The No. 1 overall pick will have work to do with the rest of this roster, but his size and shooting will be difficult to handle.

WHAT ARE WE DOING HERE?

TEAM NICKY SMOKES — Captain Nicky Smokes, Oldie (1st round), Annika (2nd round), Zac (3rd round). Smokes pulled an unthinkable when he sandbagged during the combine to try and earn a spot outside the top eight. Luckily, the best commissioner in the game put an end to that real quick. Selecting Canadian Oldie at the end of the first round, Smokes tried to pull a fast one and draft Bosco on his way back out the second, but unfortunately, the two came from the same tier and were denied access. So, what does Smoke do? He chooses Annika, of course, because love always prevails. However, I don't see this roster gelling well together despite Zac coming in and being a main character guy in his short time at Barstool. This team is fucked.

TEAM T-BOB — Captain T-Bob, Rudy (1st round), Sydnie Wells (2nd round), Ben Mintz (3rd round). Right hand up. I didn't know a single thing about T-Bob before he came to Barstool, but I have enjoyed him with his appearances on Mostly Sports. A former SEC offensive lineman will give other teams fits, but the rest of this roster leaves a lot to be desired. Rudy has a chance to turn some heads, but I would rather play 3-on-2 than have Mintzy out there as the third player. (Love you, Mintz)
