OLine Talk Only: Gavin Broscious & the Spartans

FINALLY!!! The end of summer is near, with college football camps across America rolling into form. All the talks, tweets, and buzz are lighting up our eyes as football is back. With that comes the stories of new beginnings, second chances, and just plain grit. Today the focus will be drawn into East Lansing, Michigan & the Michigan State Spartans. Why, you ask?

Well, not just cause we actually heard so profoundly this morning from former national champion offensive lineman T-Bob Herbert... it's bout time we talk OFFENSIVE LINE! Beforehand I got the chance to look into the Big 10 & Spartans, who are in the heart of top-tier OLine land, and one of those boys is Junior OL Gavin Broscious, with a story that encompasses the true meaning of playing OL in the Big 10. It's time we give the offensive line some love it deserves!

Broscious was a highly sought recruit out of Goodyear, Arizona in the class of 2022 from Desert Edge High School. Where for four years this blogger personally saw him manhandle anyone in his way on a football field. Leading the Scorpions to very successful seasons(37-12 overall), and continuing a tradition of high level players out of Goodyear, Arizona & the Scorpion campus.

Gavin had his pick from many Power 4 schools including Nebraska, Arizona, & BYU. Though the Spartan tradition just spoke to him: "My decision to go to MSU was the culture and history of the school. Just knowing that MSU was, & still is the toughest, grittiest team in the Big 10 stood out to me more than others." Upon getting to campus, his stature already had Spartan fans drooling, at 6'5", 305, and a motor that didn't quit, regularly seen getting downfield to defend his ball carrier. Of course, always looking the part with his own style, Broscious also had an one of a kind attitude that anyone could love.

Anyways, still ... no matter who you are... there's always a welcoming moment you never forget. When I asked him if he had any memory way back to freshman year, he easily answered, "Let’s just say it was my first time being lifted off the ground by another human." Adding on about the vast difference from the high school field to B10: "Going to the B10 from high school there are so many different things that stood out. The main thing was the speed and strength of the O/D line. Guys were just bigger, stronger and faster."

None of this deterred Broscious. Even when he was faced with multiple setbacks, he found a way to make himself stronger, going back to the reasons he chose the Spartans... grit, toughness, & family. He fought back through injuries and played himself into a starting role in 2024 as a sophomore, before suffering a freak season-ending injury. Didn't matter... and don't call it a comeback people! It's just what OL & Gavin do. No excuses, no pity, just grind & enjoy the process.

"The strength staff also was a huge factor in this process of learning how to see the bright side of things. Huge shoutout to Joe Powell... this guy has been by my side through thick and thin. Knowing that I could be one of the guys who will make MSU great again burned into my head and that’s why I kept going." - Broscious on his recovery

Broscious continued his positive & tough outlook through this setback: "The big thing for me being through as much as I have been through was purely based on how much I love the game and how good I know I can be. The mentality of knowing what the future holds for me kept me going." He then continued on how the brotherhood & family atmosphere of Michigan State allowed for the feeling of knowing you aren't in this alone: "The guys on my team who had my back through it all definitely had a big impact on my day-to-day life, especially my Tackle Ashton Lepo. Him & I have been through this together since day one of getting on campus."

You see now this is what makes OL such a special breed, that T-Bob Herbert & many others want to be heard. Gavin & so many others across the nation put their bodies on the line every play the protectors of all the guys who get the highlights. Without the OL, we don't get the Kenneth Walker III's or Kirk Cousins in Spartan lore. Do they look for thanks in return? Nope they are just ready for 60 more minutes for their boys the next Saturday.

The Spartans & Broscious have a strong quiet belief going into the 2025 season, healthy and ready to prove to those around the nation what they are capable of: "Seeing what this team can and will be pushes everyone in the building. Guys know what we are capable of and it shows. Knowing that I can help lead the guys in the right direction feeds my energy and focus every day." As camp continues and kickoff grows closer, he feels ready for a breakout campaign, working again towards a starting role he has earned before.

"Seeing the offense and defense flying off the ball every single play and seeing that guys know what their job is and getting it done no matter what or who is in the way is really special. We will be a force to be reckoned with this year. This team is special." - Broscious on early fall camp

The energy felt from the Spartans bleeds into East Lansing itself, a college town that loves their Saturday full of football, and the feeling for the team is the fans are part of this thing. Broscious talked about how when recruits visit, it's easy to show them how special the town and the alumni are, it's all connected. It's a place you want to come back to, adding: "The alumni here is special. We have so many cool and unique ex-athletes that still come around to this day." The buzz is real for the Spartans in 2025.

"They are more than just fans, they are family and a part of the team. There is a buzz in the air when we do the Spartan Walk from the hotel to the stadium. You can feel the energy and excitement running out of the tunnel onto the field. You can tell our fans bleed green and white no matter the outcome." - Broscious on Saturdays in East Lansing

An energy in Spartan Stadium that is unmatched is when "TSDTR (the school down the road)" comes late this October. As I found out firsthand, the implications are real. When asking what the vibes are when you beat M******N, he could not even speak their name. Again...come on, these guys need more recognition...how can you not love OL, loyal to the max, the protectors of the team even beyond your QBs, RBs, & WRs?

Spartan fans can't help but be on the edge of their seats waiting for the season to begin. And myself, always being a Gavin Broscious guy, you can feel the energy & vibes are high when talking to him about 2025. "The coaches are amazing, the staff is amazing. It’s a family environment. Coach Smith has really turned this place around," he added on.

The trenches of college football are no place for the feeble, especially in Power 4 football. For the Michigan State Spartans, they have to feel good knowing they are going to battle every Saturday this fall with the likes of Gavin Broscious, who is more than ready, yet again, to protect his boys this fall while proudly wearing the Spartan Green & White.
