Ole Miss the Unlikeliest of Heroes Saves CFB Playoffs

The main event of the college football quarterfinals today was brought back to life by a game of the season candidate after Ole Miss upset Georgia 39–34. The day started really as bad as it could for college football, with a combined score of 61–3 in two snoozers. But Hotty Toddy pulled the rabbit outta their hat with QB Trinidad Chambliss leading the way.

In what is the most unlikely suitor to win it all, really only ahead of the G5 schools, the Rebels now find themselves with a ticket to Arizona & the Fiesta Bowl to take on Miami, Florida for a chance at a spot in the national championship. Now why is the 6th seed such an underdog? They headed into these playoffs off the Lane Kiffin saga as he tried to leave but stay at the same time… Instead, he was shown the door & off to LSU. In the meantime, brand new head coach Pete Goulding was tasked to refocus his team for a playoff run, which he has amazingly done.

Though the underdog story doesn’t stop there, as their QB Trinidad Chambliss is trying to accomplish a feat that, from my research, has not been done before: win a national championship at the Division 1 & 2 levels. Chambliss came to Ole Miss from Ferris State expecting to be Austin Simmons’ backup. He took on the challenge, winning the job early in the season for good. Not looking back one bit, he avenged his only loss tonight as a starter with a masterful performance: 30/46, 362 yds, & 2 TDs, including a dime on the game-winning drive.

Between Goulding & Chambliss, you have two people who embody this Ole Miss run in the playoffs. People doubting them all along the way, but when Alabama & Texas Tech failed today, the Rebels stood tall, saving the first day of 2026. Who knows, if this game went bad it could have jump-started an awful year of sports, but for now Ole Miss has saved us from this horrific fate.

If you told someone not even 5 years ago that the College Football Playoff semifinals would be Indiana vs Oregon & Ole Miss vs Miami, they would have laughed your ass out of the room. But here we are. We just witnessed Alabama get dummied by Indiana football & UGA lose to Ole Miss with a brand new HC. We will have semifinals without Alabama, Georgia, or Ohio State… whew, 2026 already giving us some gems!

Also the years don't matter 2025 or 2026 Barstool Mintzy just wins!!!!
