NBA Blockbuster Trades: Major leagues hypotheticals

What a weekend in the NBA world, as two major trades have, in theory, turned the playoff picture this year...and moving forward...upside down. But you know what? Now it's got the internet swirling with speculation about other sports. This seems like as good a time as any to see if we can come up with three comparable deals that could happen across other leagues, bringing as much shock and awe as we’ve witnessed online over the past two days.

If any of these trades do occur, I believe I deserve all the credit...and a GM job offer within the week after it happens. I channeled my inner Jonah Hill Moneyball for this shit, so let’s take this seriously.

Let’s start with a blockbuster on the gridiron!

The Bengals are dealing Ja’Marr Chase to the New York Jets for Davante Adams. This is an electric steal for the Jets...I don’t know how you can argue this. Chase is at the top of his game, similar to Luka in the NBA, while Adams is a player who can still have big games but is nowhere near the value he had five years ago. You also get to pair Chase with an aging star in Rodgers, which could be exactly what they need to get to the Super Bowl. I mean, who says no, right? This is what I’m led to believe is a fair trade now.

OH NO, BREAKING NEWS… On the ice, we have a deal!

It looks like the Devils are sending Jack Hughes over to the Toronto Maple Leafs for John Tavares! What a deal for the Leafs...it’s finally their time to get the Cup with this one. It makes sense for the Devils too; the veteran leadership coming over to their team now is exactly what they need. This might be the most balanced trade I’ve ever seen. I don’t know how GMs aren’t already in conversations about this. It’s always nice to see a trade where everyone wins.

It looks like a Leafs fan fever dream

Is the MLB getting into the mix now? It sure looks like it with this one.

NO WAY! The Orioles make a move as Gunnar Henderson goes to the Atlanta Braves for Chris Sale. I can see how this trade meets the needs of both teams. With the Orioles losing Corbin Burnes, this works for both sides. Also, it just doesn’t look like Henderson is getting the Orioles to the level they need to be at.

These deals might even be more fair than what we saw this weekend. I don’t see a world where these aren’t at least discussed. Sometimes, GMs just need a little push...they get nervous about asking the tough questions regarding a superstar. But the worst thing they can do is say, Nah, we’re good. It’s time for GMs to spice up our leagues a little bit. Let’s live a little. I mean, who cares about the fans anyway? It’s not like they make a franchise what it is.
