Masters: Early Round of the Tourney Nominee

We are not even halfway through the first round of the Masters and we may already have the round of the tournament completed. As is the case every year, we see the good, the bad, and the ugly of rounds at Augusta. As it takes every ounce of patience a golfer has...and then some. The focus needed to achieve success is daunting for even the best in the world. One tiny mistake can lead to a round with no recovery in sight.

Well now in comes Nicolai Højgaard, one of the first to tee off early this morning for the first day of the Masters tournament. Now, for those who aren't familiar with Højgaard, he is a young and upcoming golfer from Denmark with 4 international victories, part of Ryder Cups, and a top-20 finisher at last year’s Masters.

Basically, what I'm trying to get across is this guy has some real talent. Højgaard definitely gave the fans a show today.

1st Round at the Masters

This man needed a big pencil today on the course with all the notes, circles, and boxes he had to jot down. Højgaard began the day at +3, only to then skyrocket to the lead at one point...just to then shoot +5 over the next four holes. He of course also proceeded to get an eagle on 15 before finally leveling out with 3 straight bogeys to end this near-historic up & down round.

Again, I am a huge golf guy, and I’ve seen guys have a bad hole and recover...or just blow up in general because they’re off their game. This is quite the accomplishment: to go from highs & lows and still finish +4 on the day.

As I said, we are still so early, as many are battling the course currently. I mean shit who knows could be way off base here, and 10 more guys might do the same today. Either way, the course seems to be generally taking the first bite. As the weekend continues, the fight between golfer and course will be one to keep an eye on.
