Yet again, we have another day and another metric proving Gonzaga Basketball is not only the new age of blue blood programs, but also ascending to the top of the charts in player development for the next level.
The newly released metric is the Synergy Player Impact Chart, and Gonzaga ranks 5th, behind only Kentucky, Duke, Michigan State, and Texas. Now, three of those four can't be argued against as true blue bloods of college basketball. These are programs that have been staples of March for decades. Now yes, I will agree that Texas is a bit of a wildcard here, as we haven’t seen consistent success in wins and losses from them over the past decade. It’s also fair to say Kevin Durant has a large impact on their metrics. Still, seeing them ranked this high gave me a little pause...but when you look at the four around them, it does lend some strong validity to the source.
The focus, though, has to be Gonzaga locking in that 5 spot. This is ahead of schools like Villanova, North Carolina, UCLA, Purdue, Houston, Florida, and so many others. Gonzaga Basketball has gone from a small nobody making a Cinderella run 26 years ago as a 10-seed into the Elite Eight, to now being a national brand regularly producing NBA talent... with a top-5 impact in the league. That deserves endless praise, awards, and documentaries this needs to be spoken from the highest of mountains people, lets make sure all know the story of Bulldog lore. Just think about this for a moment, they were the only college to have a starter on both 2025 NBA Finals teams (Andrew Nembhard, Pacers & Chet Holmgren, Thunder).
This all is just another feather in Mark Few’s cap, another recruiting tool added to the toolbelt. Gonzaga Basketball continues its rise. Now, with the Pac-12 just a year away, the Bulldogs will look to tighten their grip on the title of blue bloods in the land of college basketball.
For now, we trek on continue to prove to the nation that the Gonzaga Bulldogs can walk right with the best of them, and go for another Final Four run in 2025-26.
