Sports bring us joy and moments to escape sometimes when you need them most. Now yes, the dang Dbacks are in quite the bullpen slump right now, but with baseball you can’t get too high or low when there’s 162 of them. Though through the peaks and valleys of the season, it delivers for you pieces of history. Last night, though they couldn’t hang on, Eugenio Suarez put himself in the history books with only the 19th time in all eras of baseball. How, you might ask? Well, Suarez MASHED 4 home runs in one game, including a two-out game-tying home run in the bottom of the 9th inning.
Baseball has some very impressive feats in its long history of over its easily 130-plus-year existence. Perfect games, no-hitters, cycles, home run, hit, and strikeout records all along with so many more. The fact that it’s had almost 21k players in its history and only 19 have done what Suarez did last night…its something we all need to cherish.
We got lucky to witness such a feat. It’s funny, watching the game, he hits his 3rd one of the game, and my wife, knowing me all too well, says, “How much would it have been if you bet him to hit 3 home runs?” Then she proceeded to say, bet him to hit another next at bat. I then committed the cardinal sin of not taking the bet from someone who isn’t a gambler. They always seem to know. She of course fell asleep, leaving me to startle her awake to screams of him hitting that very 4th home run she predicted. Of course the odds would have been insane, but also I would have gone crazy with the amount either…
So before you hound me on not taking and making that live bet, let me go to AI. “The odds of a 4-home run game happening in any single MLB game are roughly 0.0081%, or about 1 in 12,368 games.” Yep. You are reading those odds right. So back off on the not betting it, and instead let’s be thankful we got to see this happen live and in the moment.

Geno, as he is known to fans, is the type of guy you want to see in the record books. Yes, his play with the slumps makes it tough sometimes to watch, but he is always known as one of the nicest team players there is. So let’s tip our caps to the 19th player since 1871 in the game of baseball to hit 4 freakin’ home runs in a game!
Moral of the story: listen to your wife
