Dozen Trivia League: Blockbuster Trade!

As we wait for the Final Four in Boston, huge news was dropped on us by Jersey Jerry: Frank the Tank is on the move to the Grinders for Liam Blutman.

The swap is sending shockwaves through the league and social media, as one of The Dozen’s original teams has played its final match together. Once we get past the shock factor, you begin to really break it down—and it could be one that makes sense for both teams. But that doesn’t mean lives weren’t affected.

Liam Blutman’s first comments on finding out he was traded showed the reality of the business. His heartfelt goodbye to Coach Gruden and Jake Malasek reminds us that while yes, these are professionals, there’s still a personal aspect to consider about the competitors.

Frank, on the other hand, seemed in good spirits as he looks forward to a fresh start under Coach Gruden.

Aside from all that, who won this trade? And will we see the Frankettes name go with The Tank, or is it now retired into The Dozen history books?

Let’s take a look at what Blutman gives Nick & KB.

Right away, it plugs a glaring hole in their expertise: college sports. This has always been a low spot for them when competing against teams who are very strong in that category, like the Booze Ponies and Experts.

Liam gives them another dimension they were missing. They’ve always felt strong in pop culture, so Blutman won’t really need to worry about that, he can focus on his sports. His chill demeanor is also a complete 180 and may leave room for more shenanigans from the ANUS boys.

As for the Grinders...

They get a player with sports knowledge from the same era as Gruden, which means Frank & Gruden could bounce ideas off each other for sports questions, while Malasek holds down pop culture, something he did very well this past season.

The issue we saw with the Grinders was the gap in timelines, Blutman’s sports knowledge skewed post-2010, and Coach Gruden’s leaned pre-2010, leaving their trivia approach a bit all over the place. Frank loves the oldies, and now he’ll have a teammate to work them out with.

Still, you have to feel the winner of this trade is Nick & KB adding Blutman. They’ve shown they can win in past seasons. Maybe a locker room change and new blood is what finally gets them to the promised land of a Dozen championship.

The Grinders, meanwhile, may now have more balance with questions from the same era, but they still have a lot to prove before we start talking contender status.

The last thing on this blogger’s mind...and I’m sure many others is...

What happens to the Frankettes name?

Did it die today and soon become just a trivia question itself? Or will one of these two teams continue its legacy?

We can only assume it’s heading into the history books, as Nick posted a nice gesture to Frank on X early this morning.

When it comes down to it, yes, it is a business. But you still can’t help but feel a little something deep down when big moves like this happen. Lives changing right before our eyes. In the end, we’ll always have the great memories of Frank & the Frankettes to live on in youtube airwaves.

Season 6, though, will be a new beginning for Frank, KB, and Nick.

The first matchup between them? That’ll be 100% appointment TV.
