The Final Four is set, we have our matchups, and Boston is going to be ROCKIN’!
This evening, we saw a late surge by Ziti to keep defending their title for one more game being the first to make it to the final four as they beat the Frankettes...sending them home and into an offseason of uncertainty. Meanwhile, to no surprise by many, Minihane came out with urgency, and the Yak just never had any momentum in this one, falling in a landslide. And with that we are down to 4, with two of the four road-tripping to Boston having a homefield advantage.
As I said before, the Frankettes did push Ziti to the limit, and oddly enough, the game turned when KB(who is still the man!) not only had a rare geography miss, but then it was stolen by Ziti. They followed it up by hitting their own question to flip a 1-point deficit into a 2-point lead. The Frankettes battled back, but a final round call-a-friend, quickly made to Mikey Bets by Frank proved to be the nail in the coffin. As poor Mikey maybe gave one of the worst answers in Dozen history, even though "he always be streaming".
Through it all Ziti heads to their 4th final four and will look to do the improbable of being a repeat and defending Dozen Trivia League champion. Eddie & Clem are hungry and prepared to snack on Boston!
A lot of offseason questions ahead for the Frankettes: Will they stay together? Are the Nick & KB the perfect fit for Frank?
To me, Nick & KB might be the only way Frank plays again. I just don’t see him working with others. Even in the darkest moments, Nick & KB still manage to work with him well. For the league to lose one of it's original teams would be heartbreaking, a tough scene at times this week, we know though deep down these three want to get that championship together.
As for our other squad whose season ended today...the Yak, it feels less doom and gloom. They felt like they won the game they should have and just ran into a buzzsaw... oh oh oh and that buzzsaw wildly enough included a Chris Klemmer legacy game, as he poured in 10 points to get Kirk Minihane the chance to win a title in front of the hometown crowd. Showing in his play his admiration for his captain and good friend of course.
As for the Yak, they did find a way to avoid retirement, and we’ll be excited to see them back for Season 6 with maybe some offseason training a new found hunger for a championship.
As for Thursday in Boston...Ziti and Minihane both have hometown captains, which means they’ll have the crowd’s side all night long. Though still in theory you would think that both will be underdogs. The Experts and Booze Ponies better be ready and on top of their games to get by the hometowners. Composure will be key for Brandon Walker, as the crowd will, unfortunately, be against him yet again.
Though let’s ALL be truly honest for a second...an Experts first championship, beating Ziti and Minihane in their home barn, is an ESPN 30 for 30 story waiting to be told by Jeff D. Lowe and the Dozen Trivia League.
See ya Thursday, Stoolies… & Minifans…
