College Baseball Has An Umpire Problem

College baseball is a beautiful game.

The Regionals this weekend opened with electric play on Friday and Saturday.

Upsets, pitching duels, and offensive juggernauts were on display through the first two days as UCLA fell in their opening game as the National No. 1 seed (and eventually lost again on Sunday), Tennessee was eliminated, Nebraska was sent home, and other big storylines.

Unfortunately despite all the fun baseball that was played throughout the weekend, the top two storylines that stood out to me minus the Bruins being eliminated in their home regional were ejections that took place.

I mean, what is this?

These umpires are stealing the spotlight and trying to be the main character.

Both calls soft and weak in my opinion. Especially the first one after what appeared to be an atrocious strike three call on not only one of the best players in the entire Lincoln Regional, but in all of college baseball.

The Tre Phelps home run call, I'm a little more on the fence on when you see how he reacts running down the first base line, but these dudes are jacked up and college baseball is supposed to be the sport you can still be fiery in with college athletics.

Regardless, the umpires know what those two players meant to their respective teams, they understand that both players have to serve a suspension, but as long as the paycheck is coming in, who cares right?

I wouldn't mind an ABS system coming to college baseball to knock some of these umpires at the collegiate level off their high horse. It worked well in the SEC tournament.

This probably isn't one of my more thought out blogs. This was a spur of the moment blog after watching the umpires try and destroy Sunday regionals, but I'm curious on your thoughts on ABS coming to college baseball and the two ejections that were made on Sunday.

Fair or Foul?
