Best Dressed at the Met Gala

Happy Met Gala to all who celebrate, where all the celebrities dress in amazing, adventurous couture and all of us normies sit on our couch in oversized pajamas with ice cream and judge the hell out of these high fashion looks.

The theme this year was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style and the Expression of Dandyism. When I read this, I had no idea what that even meant, but according to Vogue, "Black dandyism is 'a strategy and a tool to rethink identity, to reimagine the self in a different context; To really push a boundary.'" The dress code was "tailored for you" and the celebs delivered on well-fitting, tailored looks. Everybody was dressed to the nines in outfits that fit them like a glove. There was a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear, and it showed. I loved all the women in a suit or their interpretation of a suit. The Met Gala co-chairs will include Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour herself, of course.

A couple things that I noticed this year that stood out among the stars was the tailored pants under a long cape or overskirt; the modern use of kiss curls; and the pants-less look. Obviously not everyone hit the mark on their outfit of the night, but I think this was a great year for Met Gala looks. So, let's get into my favorite looks of the night.

  1. Janelle Monáe

Obviously, I had to start off the list with the Queen of the Met Gala, herself, Janelle Monáe. I feel like the met was made for her. Her looks are always so interesting and have such a unique perspective on the theme. Janelle expresses herself in a unique way in her everyday style, so this theme was right up her alley. I also loved that her look was designed by the costume designer for Wicked. I know this look isn't for everyone, but it is just so met gala that I'm obsessed with it.

  1. Angel Reese

I loved Angel's look. I love that it's a feminine corseted skirt with a cropped menswear style top. I think she almost nailed the theme perfectly. I think it just needed a little bit more, like pinstripes or a pop of color. She is also using the modernized kiss curl hairstyle. I was obsessed with anyone who wore their hair that way, it just felt so glamorous.

  1. Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens

I might be biased on their looks because I love them so much. I am an Olympics junkie and die-hard Bears fan so it's hard not to love this combo. Simone's dress fit her like a glove, and I am a sucker for a long train at the met. They just look so good dragging up the steps. Jonathan looked great in all white with pops of blue to match Simone. I also loved any look that came with a cane. When asked about their outfits Simone told her designer to just use her as his muse (queen shit), but Jonathan said he was all in on the design process which I also loved.

  1. Jennie

When I was watching this live, I did not have a single clue on who this person was. I assumed she was a socialite or model or something of that nature; but, after a quick google search just now, I learned she is a South Korean singer and rapper. She looked amazing. I loved this Chanel look. The E Network announcers were not the biggest fan of her dress, but I was instantly obsessed. The old school Chanel vibe with the trend of fitted pants under an overskirt.

  1. Diana Ross And Megan thee Stallion

It feels sacrilegious to put the queen Diana Ross in the same spot as Megan thee Stallion. Don't get me wrong Megan looked amazing and is a queen in her own way, but she will never come close to Diana Ross. The only reason I put them in the same spot is because Megan almost looks like Diana's mini me outfit wise (and I tried to keep it to the top 10 whoops). All in all, this is Diana's spot. She looked incredible. I cannot believe she is 81 years old. She does not look a day over 40 years old. Insanity. Her train was epic, and she looked stunning.

  1. Coco Jones

To me this look is timeless. She looks amazing. The slick back long ass braided ponytail to bring emphasis to the rest of the outfit is perfect. The detailing on this over coat and pant combo is so intricate and gorgeous. The deep v of the jacket without a shirt and just a statement necklace is so good. Apparently, the beading of the outfit made it so heavy, and she needed help carrying it to the car and out to the carpet.

  1. Quinta Brunson

I LOVE Quinta and she fucking ate with this look. From the dress fitting her like a god damn glove to the suit jacket with the pop of color on the red boutonniere to the black rhinestone pinstripes, I cannot get enough of this look. Queen as always.

  1. Sabrina Carpenter

I mean, duh. Pants-less was a huge trend of the night but no one did it better than our girl Sabrina. She also nailed the ode to men's fashion and "tailored for you." This is so perfectly Sabrina and Met Gala all mashed into one. The color, the long coat tails, the barbie doll pumps, and just everything is absolutely perfect. She is stunning and this look was just everything.

  1. Zendaya

YES YES YES. Zendaya nails the Met Gala every year, but this has to be my favorite look she has done so far. This all-white Louis Vuitton suit fits her perfectly. The hat is elegant and almost gives the whole look a Michael Jackson vibe which I adore. She is perfect and gorgeous and can just do no wrong.

  1. Halle Bailey

A+++++ Halle Bailey won the Met Gala hands down. She is stunning. Her look is impeccable and so perfectly on theme and so elegant. The modern kiss and pin curls with the bird cage is perfect. I'm obsessed with the two tone bedazzle pin stripe jacket dress. You can tell it's a dress just enough, but she could also fall into the pants-less trend which is also perfect. I have absolutely no notes. She is perfect. Her outfit is perfect. What a fucking stunner.

Now a couple honorable mentions (good or bad, whatever I was feeling):

  • Sidney Sweeney

I mean obviously she looked amazing. It's Sydney Sweeney. But her look wasn't very Met. Her dress was gorgeous, but not super on theme. I did love her hair and the modern kiss curl. It just wasn't Met enough to be in the top 10. Beautiful as always, though.

  • Demi Moore

This tweet perfectly describes my feelings about her look. She looks great. The dress was weird at first but then they showed us the sketch for her dress. It made me actually like it, so she for sure deserves an honorable mention.

  • Doechii, Madonna, and Lizzo

I just loved the smoking at the Met Gala whether it was real or not. I know Anna Wintour had a heart attack when she saw them.

  • Louis Vuitton Logo Tights

The pants-less look with the Louis Vuitton logo tights was just chef's kiss.

Thank you. Come celebrate with me again next day after MET Monday. See you soon for the best looks of the Bet Gala.
