Barstool Breakdown's Top 5 backcourts that aren't P******

Okay, Bruce, talk yo shit, man. I mean after a gutsy win over Ole Miss you can't blame him right? Look at the Auburn head coach let the nation know what’s up—his guards are not p******. He’s got some real DAWGS back there. But now it brings up a bigger questions for the pundits, are they in the top 5 of America’s non-p**** backcourts, though? The short answer for the ADHD folks..NOPE!

It's time to really dive into it. This poses a very interesting metric. So to start of course I dug into the NET, KenPom, and Player of the Year rankings, looking for the metrics. Hoping to find a list already made of course, but my search was to no avail. The research for the top 5 backcourts in the nation that aren't p****** was now on me, the unsung & unknown true college basketball all knower. Yes I'll take this by challenge since it looks no one else can dive this deep into the game.

Before I really dug into the search, I attempted to reach out to Pearl’s people to see if maybe he had the rubric for finding these guards, a recruiting tool of sorts maybe to evaluate his prospects. Unfortunately, no answer was given back. Thus, it has fallen completely on me to find out.

Now, the easiest or "laziest" thing to do is just search “top backcourts in the nation,” but some may not be dawgs. They could be just about offense, they may not have that grit or grind in them. Either way I got in the lab quickly and began to crunch the numbers, looking at the all the known or intangible metrics, and cut it down to the official Barstool Breakdown “Their Guards Are Not P******” list.

5. Iowa State

ree

Keshon Gilbert & Curtis Jones – Both are seniors, hard-nosed ballers. Old heads savvy guards. These guys are not backing down—they’ve been there and done that. Straight-up dawgs, even ranking 14th in forced turnovers in the nation. That’s for sure above Auburn, so they lock in easily 5th on the list.

4. McNeese

ree

Javohn Garcia & Sincere Parker – Will Wade’s guards are DUDES. They play 40 minutes of pressing FULL COURT and don’t back down from any challenge. Also come on Javohn masked up too, what a vibe! Then you got Sincere, who is far from his name—he plays defense and runs on offense. Not to mention they get a little extra aura from their team manager, too. That gives them enough to slide into 4th.

3. UC San Diego

ree

Hayden Gray & Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones – The Tritons’ duo are DAWGS. Gray is one of the national leaders in pick pocketing—never backs down from anyone on the otherside. Then you’ve got Tait-Jones, a certified baller from New Zealand, where their main sport is rugby. He is for sure not a p****. There should be no questions on why they land at 3rd in the nation.

2. VCU

ree

Max Shulga & Phillip Russell – Any team that loves to press has straight DUDES on it. 40 minutes of hell on a court when you go up against the boys in the Commonwealth. Shulga & Russell do not mess around, plain & simple. Can you imagine getting pressed all game, and they just aint getting tired? Constant spin cyle there bud.  This is why they have to come in 2nd. I know its unfortunate to not be first, but your are about to know why. Still you gotta give it to them either way.

1. St. John's

ree

Kadary Richmond & RJ Luis Jr. – How could it not be the Johnnies? These boys play 40 minutes of f***-you basketball. Also, they don’t shoot well—like, seriously—true DAWGS. They’ll press or just sit in your back pocket for all 30 seconds in the frontcourt. They wear you down to a pulp. Come on now! It’s March—you do NOT want to see the Johnnies on your bracket.

This list, of course, took so much research, so lets be kind please. I would, of course, post my sources, but really—it also comes down to a feeling. Like the great Bruce Pearl—when you know, you know.

He knows his guys aren’t p******, but here’s the thing, Brucey—these five backcourts understand how to be DAWGS. That’s why they land themselves on the OFFICIAL Barstool Breakdown’s Top 5 Guards Who Are Not P****** in the Nation.
