Barstool After Dark Preview: Legacy Night?

Okay I wanna get out in front of this now, I am a big fan of Barstool Tate. Yes, it’s tough to look past his Ohio State fanhood, as gross as it is. But I do, as I’m sure many others do too.(Go Irish!)

But tonight could be a legacy moment for Tate...not in his Barstool status, oh no. He is 100% on his good shit with After Dark. I’m talking coaching!

For those who don’t have a damn clue what I mean, that’s okay. I know some stoolies aren’t as crazy as others. But Tate, in a previous life, was a high school basketball coach. And from everything I’ve heard and read...a pretty friggin’ good one too.

Tonight, we’ll begin to see what Coach Tate really has. Was his record just the result of talent he inherited? Whew. I wouldn’t want to be this guy tonight as a coach myself, we know the chat will be throwing DARTS at his ass with every mistake in the weave.

Now before you get on me with the “well maybe this was a drill he didn’t do much” argument... nah nah nah. 3-player weave is a staple. No, it’s ground-level structure to a basketball practice. Tate knows this. Which is why, as a coach myself, I can only tip my cap to him inviting the possible disaster that may very well occur tonight.

Yes, I understand there are “challenges” that make the situation a bit different. But a coach knows you’re not always going to get the group you want, sometimes the tank is a little dry and you gotta bring them to the well. Sorry, wouldn’t be a coaching blog without some cheesy coachspeak.

Here’s the thing though, Tate has something to work with. He’s got athletes in Mark Titus, Katic, and Max, all former D1 guys he needs to lean on his athletes and match them well with others like...Mintzy for instance. But another thing in a weave, you gotta go quick, and the big boys may tire quicker than you want.

Anything with Katic, by the way, is going to be great. Tate needs him to help rally the troops. A major move by Coach Tate would be to name Katic team captain. His leadership could prove to be the gamechanger in this thing.

Also, from the posted trial runs, Tate is gonna have to really put on the whistle and coach. Again, what can he do with a ragtag bunch of bloggers and content creators? Can he transform them into the makings of another Barstool basketball team? Watch out, Kirk, if so!

Or does this stream ride into the night and he loses the trust of his team?

A legacy is on the line. And it isn’t anyone’s in the Barstool sense...It’s Coach Tate’s.

Can he get this machine humming? And if not...At what point does his legacy falter?
