151st Kentucky Derby Day

A tradition every May to start off the Triple Crown, the 151st Kentucky Derby is this evening. Now, I’m going to be completely honest here everyone...I know absolutely not a damn thing about horse racing, so as the Breakdown expert this is gonna be tough. I usually just throw some coin on the coolest-named ones. I’ve also always wondered, like, is that really the horse’s name? Yes, I know that’s a dumb question, but I’m telling you again...I know nothing! I couldn’t even tell you the length of the race, I should probably look that up. One thing I do know for sure: the race itself is so electric, I try to never miss it, which is tough since it just goes off randomly, it seems like.

So every year I take a look at the board, bet a couple of cool names, and then whatever Eddie Olczyk tells me to do. I mean, I gotta stick with the Seattle Kraken announcer! As I looked over the board, I did find out one cool fact: #15 Rendered Judgment (30–1 odds) is actually the horse of the late great Toby Keith. So that’s an automatic bet. When I say “bet,” yes, I do mean to win. The other stuff I try to bet too, but I never understand if I win or not with “place” and “show,” I think they’re called.
It does look like there are three truly above the rest in odds:
They’re 3–1, 5–1, and 6–1 odds respectively as I write this. To me, the name I have to bet at 30–1 is Flying Mohawk. Just think about how mad you’ll be at yourself if this boy takes it and you didn’t bet that.

Now, the next thing I’ve been told is that weather could dictate a lot, and rain can throw a huge wrench into these odds... you may even say even...wash them out (100% yes pun intended). So that begs the question: who might be a “mudder”? OH NO, here we go I might be stuck in a Abbott & Costello bit! We gotta look into this mudder stuff quick! This could bring an element to the race that a noob like me can come nowhere close to comprehending. So I think in this instance, I’m going to stick to what I know... which is really nothing... so this part of the blog feels redundant...my bad!
The last thing about the Derby that’s pretty cool is the tradition of people, not only there but everywhere dressing up and bringing a fun elegance to the day. Of course, people are still gonna get sloppy drunk and yell at the TV like psychos, but for picture & socials time, it’s almost a flashback to another time. It’s neat to see how certain events can change our personalities for a quick moment here or there throughout the year. I’m here for all of that, and don’t and will never judge a fun day of dress-up.
Well, to sum up this Kentucky Derby preview from Barstool Breakdown’s expert horse analyst: Eddie Olczyk is the man, go with the favorites, horses with cool names, and remember, it might be rainy, but we don’t really understand which types of horses will be affected by it but we have it in our notes. So actually lets revert back to the first three points. In the end, enjoy the day, and maybe...just maybe, you can make a little coin on the 151st Kentucky Derby.
